  • Snooker Cues?

I've only been playing snooker for about 3 months and wondered if anyone knows a good reliable website where I can get a decent cue and what I should be looking for in the descriptions.

There's dozens of sites who'll be able to help you out. My suggestion in terms of the type of cue you go for, is to make sure you buy a cue that has a good ebony with a truly straight grained ash shaft. If you want a cheap but decent cue try ebay...there are plenty of bargains but, irrespective of what the seller tells you, the majority of the package deals selling for the 50 pound mark and less are imported from the far east.

      Good luck!!!

You can but that cue (not endorsed, but same heritage cue out of a snooker supply shop for less than £35. although you may need postage if you dont have one near you.

best of luck in your cue hunt

Can't open the website, marron, so I don't know the manufacturer but why do you want to buy a 'beginner cue'?
I'd recommend to buy the best one you can afford and stay with it.
If you play snooker in a club I'd suggest to friendly ask other players if you may try their cue for a shot or two. You'll learn more from this about what suits you and what you should be looking for than from websites.
For example if vuce is using a Peradon cue which is good for him it doesn't automatically mean it's perfect for you. Nevertheless discussing certain manufacturers on the web can give you additional information about terms of delivery and quality.
Anyway, some very basic basics from the Nugget http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/othe...er/4432771.stm

If you're in the north east go and see Stu Green at greenbaize!
His website is on a banner above and he's a good bloke!

Otherwise a trip to craftsman Leeds would be advisable!
With these two you could try before you buy craftsman have loads of cues in stock!
If you get one off the web look at billiard boutique, again they have a banner they often give members a discount!
I have been told that FCsnooker: Frank Callen is evil and never to do business with him but don't know him personally!

Out of the two you've seen go for the peradon like Semih said!
Don't get some tat from argos!

I have actually heard of this place as I live 10 minutes drive away and was referred to it by a friend but as i thought it was called 'greenbays' because of the way they pronounced it I couldn't find the website address. I will go down there this week and have a look. I will try the cues and see what they feel/look like. Has anyone got any tips on what to look for in a good cue ie. length, feel, what its made of.

                        Cheers,

                        Stephen

Cues are massively subjective, and, what suits one player won't do at all for another. Here's the best advice I can give you.

                          Trust your own judgement.

You are the best person to answer your own questions. you are not going to get a really high quality cue for the money you are spending, but, in reality, you don't need a high quality cue to play great snooker or to enjoy yourself.

If you are new to the game, I'd say look for a cue that you feel happy with, then go and use it and enjoy it. The more you play, the more experience you'll get, and that way, future cue choices may become a little more straightforward.

                          Good luck with it.

Well your not going to get any better advice than what Trevor says after all he does make the finest cues possible. Not that I can really say as I've never handled one of his I'm going on what a cue dealer told me when we were chatting (after i'd bought my cue elsewhere so there was no bias at all)

What i would like to add though is as your looking at your first cue and have only been playing 3 months look to a second hand cue or a decent chinese cue* that you wont lose on much should you sell it on when you have played more and are more sure in what you prefer.

Ever seen Frasier? The old mans armchair? Well theres a lot of folks that swear by their top of the range chesterfield armchairs and then theres the kind like Frasiers old man who can only fall asleep in his tatty old thing. Cues are much the same playing wise. It's the looks and the quality of wood and the finish you pay for. Your akin to a new kid though no disrespect but you'd probably fall asleep in either.

Decent chinese cues. Well most you see for sale be they the likes of Riley / BCE / or the masses of unheard of names you see on ebay are most likely chinese made and importers buy them for as little as a fiver a piece as they sell loads of them making 300% or more profit easily. The chinese can make as good a cue as anyone though and a lot cheaper it's the importers buying the bottom of the range crap that gives them their bad name.

Lot of sense in the post above by Wity.

I can say without question, that I know personally, numerous players using the cheapest tattiest pieces of s**t cues you could hope to have the misfortune of using.

But I'll tell you what, boy can they play some awesome snooker with them.
The thing with these players is this though:

They have the ability, and have had the experience necessary, to establish that their particular cue works for them. They've spent the time to improve and develop their game and along the way have become 'ONE' with the cue they use and this is why they stick with it, even though a better cue might actually make things easier for them.

It's knowing what you've got and how it performs for you, and, having the security in knowing what you can do with it.

Trust your own judgement when choosing a cue, it's no good eveyone else liking it to death when you can't really get alnog with it.
