    Hey there...

I would probably go with a safety shot. Whenever I'm watching matches on TV, from the camera angle you cannot really tell how much space is between each ball when they're vertical like in the picture. I would say that no matter what type of shot you're doing, you will more than likely cannon into the top red between full or 3/4 ball. That will take out most of the pace out of the cueball and with deep screw, you'd probably only have a chance of the blue into the green pocket. The deep screw effect won't hold until after the cueball cannons into the top red.

Using reverse side may take you close to the blue to pocket it into the right center pocket, but with the split of the reds it's possible that a red or two will block the pocket.

    Anyways, I could be wrong...

I'd be confident of getting baulk side of the blue playing the screw with side 85% of the time.

I defnitely would not pass the shot up.

Gentle topspin , the natural angle would send the white towards the black off the red just above the object ball . No heroics !!!

No. I don't think it would.

You would need to play it with power to force through the pack if you wanted to get onto the black. The red which you cannon is too close to allow the gentle follow through to glance the other reds for the path to the black. Playing it that way you would end up in the pack.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Here is how the shot was actually played by Stephen Hendry, when he was 21.

The reason I posted this thread is because I was arguing with a friend that there is no way Hendry plays the shot like he did unless it was some kind of exhibition match.

Well to be fair it was a pot most people would expect to get

Hurray, I would've played it like Hendry then, including the missed pot... lol.
