  • Lineup formation for a beginner...

Hello there, I'd like to pick some coaches brains if i may.

I've just started playing snooker again after a five year break, I was pretty decent back then but that was just through playing a bucket load of frames. I'd never heard of the lineup.

Now I've returned playing, I'm learning all over again. Whats the best formation for me to start a lineup? Easiest even.

Thank you very much in anticipation.

    Phil.

Before you do any of fergi's routines. If I was you, I'd do the 15 reds only with no colors between black and blue. When you've clocked that 2-3 times, with no miss, I'd move-on enjoy

Just try rolling all the 15 reds in without any big rotations, plane ball and look to cue through the center of the white. Oh and keep your head, this does look easy but you do still need to take it seriously. The moment you get hot under the collar its time to take a break and refresh

Black on spot Pink on spot just four reds between Black and Pink not as easy as it sounds ! clear all balls without a miss.

To make it even more interesting, clear them in sequence, lowest red first...

Could not agree more ! Then add one red above black between black and top cushion , Doing a full line up can be bad practise unless you are a good player it is best to start small and build up to it, you are looking for a good rhythm potting and position without a miss, not keep stopping and starting to replace missed balls, Just to make it a real hair puller place just the yellow on its spot so you can try and gain position from the last black to the yellow, if you can do all the above without a miss you would be a force to be reckoned with.

Seconded, this is the place to start. You need to start by gaining some confidence with potting balls. Then move on to position on colours.

This is a nice litte excerise to get the cue arm going...... I tried this yesterday and on my second attempt was one red off clearing them 3 times.

Definitely isn't as easy as it sounds, thanks for the heads up bud....

I know. Someone your standard could try doing all 15 with forward rotation 'just roll them in'. Then 15 with no cushion, or every pot you must touch a cushion! All of these are nice, another toughy is after potting try and get as close as you can to the cushion, so your playing every shot from the rail. enjoy

here is a tough one to try, i kinda found this one by mistake, normal line up, but every red must go in the same pocket i managed 8 just the once, its quite hard for my standard.

When lining the 15 reds up on their own, is it across the whole length of table or just between black and blue? I reckon spreading them from black to baulk could be VERY interesting
