Another simple one that I find tough.

Line up 7 reds in a horizontal line such that the 4th red is on the pink spot and attempt to pot all of them into the middle pockets.

Another good beginner practice routine (not a line-up though) is to put a red 2 inches from each pocket and then try to pot them all. Then try with the red say 3 inches from each pocket. If you miss - start again. See how far you can get. You can go for the closest/easiest red or try to get your long pots better.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
      I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Yep, it changes the distances you need to control the cue ball across.

Should do the drill that I've done in American pool, you have to pot the balls but you go from end to end so it gets you practising a lot of things at once. Once you get past the first 6 or 7 balls the drill gets a little easier but being pulled from side to side is not easy at all! :-)

              hi mate,

start of with 5 reds between pink and black and try clearing the table. Then if that 2 easy then 10 reds and try and clear the table all the way up to 15 reds and trying to clear. As a pro i found it very easy so what i would do is,, 15 reds 15 blacks and all the colours or 15 pinks and 15 reds and all the colours. even harder than that is 15 reds and colours and trying not to touch a cushion, this is very good for cue ball control. But u start at the beginning and work ur way up the ladder and i think u might actually enjoy it mate. Any other advice i am happy to help.

              thanks

                Your getting tough now
Would second this and throw in, 15 and always touching a cush or, sequential red lineups..
If your pumping a cheap meter go for it, otherwise stick to routines more rewarding and less time consuming enjoy

If some of these routines are for a beginner I'd better recheck my understanding of the term 'beginner'. Where's that dictionary?

I have been thinking the same thing I think some of these players are so good they've forgotten what a real beginner can achieve.

If you're really a beginner you just want 15 reds down the middle between black and blue, and they you want to try and pot as many as you can without missing and concentrating mainly on the pot, and a little on "not landing on the cushion for the next shot" and not trying to do any more than that.

You should be playing all the pots as soft->medium paced shots, and as gentle roll through or stun. Avoid side. Don't play for position on a screw shot, but if you need it give it a go.

Reset the table when you miss, or, reset the shot and repeat it until you make it and in that case remember the number of misses and try to beat it next time.

Use this to get your cue arm going and use this to practice nice smooth cueing and positive striking (no snatch, no hesitation, just push through at the desired power).

when i couldnt pot 3 balls in a row on the line up i started with just a red and black on the table and every time i cleared the table i put another red on, now i start with 5 reds ,pink and black and have made it to 13 on the odd occasion, although sometimes i cant get past 7 or 8, i wouldnt place 15 reds on the table even now its too daunting, and too much to reset .
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!
