  • I felt up to a couple of hours today, I was awesome lol, my rhythm or timing or whatever you call it, was bang on, it's funny how it's a totally different feeling through the cue and it feels effortless, the cue just glides through but the white whizzes around , I hardly moved because I cued that well so I potted like a dream, and got the white more or less to do as it's told, the only times I missed was when I believed my own hype and didn't do the right things, I hope this could be a breakthrough fingers crossed.
I don't know if this helped but I did half an hour in front of the mirror before I went practicing getting down online, I also turned to the side and watched what my grip was doing and got it opening and not closing until the chest , watching it really helped for some reason, while doing this I noticed my grip was very slightly forward(level with pinky)so moved it back to level with first finger, and I think that helped with the timing as well , it's funny how these little things creep in.

    • Hi Chris and everyone

I have been getting some solid practice in over the last few weeks and have been playing my best snooker for some time, in particular in solo practice.

i have been practicing 15 reds which i have never been able to complete until last week now i can complete at least 2 lineups in an hours session. the failures are once it gets down to the last 3-4 balls because of position becomes more important.

i have uploaded a video of me clearing 15 reds in a line up and would appreciate any comments from Chris and anyone else with regards to technique and any other issues that anyone can see i might be lacking in.

the video starts with the 3 reds on the table which tells you my previous attempt was 12 , sorry for the brightness of the video it was taken on my iphone so might not be the best quality.

      here is the link http://youtu.be/gLAeggzDoMw

thanks in advance for any comments

      • Like the care you take in setting up, good habit, shows intent.
        On first look:
-You can afford to up your tempo around the table, and maybe no more than 2-3 feathers.
-Drop the head straight down on line onto the cue with a nice pause at the white.
-But the main one for me would be play every shot like you did with the fourth red into the middle, staying down and watch the ball drop, that way you get to see and feel everything good and bad, also good to check your potting center pocket.

        • yes you are right, it looks a bit slow, however i get sometimes caught in two minds which is the best shot to take on, often at the start there are plenty of options and i am just trying to take the one that makes the next shot the easiest, when it gets to the end that's when it can get tricky as i have found out plenty of times. you may notice on the 12th shot i actually went round the other side to look at the angle i was leaving, i needed to be high and the shot was almost dead straight. i needed to run it a bit and didn't want to sour in the middle.

with regards to the 4th shot i was worried i missed and and was staying down looking at the OB , sometimes they drift at the slower pace, i get up faster when they look spot on.

thanks for the advive J6UK much appreciated

          • Hi alabaddi

Nice technique mate. I would also say u can up the tempo a bit but if this is the way u play until u feel you have improved your game then I dont have a problem with this. On the whole your technique is fine apart from a couple of small matters. On the video it looked like your bridge hand may have been a touch too far back so just watch out for that. Also stay down on every shot until the ob is in the bag as it can lead to some very bad habits. Its a great discipline to have. Some my advice to u is to focus on your line of aim and you should see a good improvement. keep up the good work alibaddi.

            Cheers Chris small

            • I like it Alabadi , what a difference in that to the video of you trying to pot the blacks, your set up looks very good, all that needs to be said has been, so keep it up, you can tell you have put some work in, nice one.

yes mate, i have been putting in some serious practice, all i need now is to translate my practice into matches as i am still not there in competitive games.

i hope i'll get there soon.

thanks for your comments always appreciated

                  • Really good video, took some inspiration from that to take into my own game !!! You definitely look like you have a strong set up developing, and in all, it will serve you well in match practice. Once your technique becomes natural you can focus on it less and less in matches. Keep at it

cheers pal, its a different kettle of fish in a match , but once this becomes natural i will be able to progress in matches. don't lose heart with your game just keep practicing a focus on your technique so that every shot you are doing the same thing over and over, eventually you will deveolp your game.

                      • Well another new high for me today eight reds , eight blacks on the line up , IN ORDER , for me that is unbelievable, to think last July, (16 months ago)I couldn't do a red and black consistently , I did a two below and a six above, tried a three below and five above, couldn't get going lol.
I think I will start using this one as I kept running out of position so I obviously need to practice this more.
I cued really really well today, felt nice through the ball, practicing in the mirror has definitely helped I would recommend it to anyone.

                        • A huge improvement over your last video m8. Keep it up and once you get more comfortable start taking on those 1/2 and 1/4 ball angles that you look to be avoiding. Favouring the straight ones in practise doesn't do your match play any favours.

Cheers m8, it wasn't that bad was it , I had at least 4-5 angled shots ..lol.

I know what you mean, it's just the way the break developed, the straight ones were the easiest shots at the time.

                            • Good post for anyone. Recognizing angles is the name of the game, not be intimidated by your 1/2's and 1/4's, and taking them on, would lead to faster progress.
