  • I am inconsistent Chris, there is no doubt about that, but for months I was inconsistently good, if you know what I mean, then bang a massive confidence crash,(tinkering with things best left alone as there was nothing wrong in the first place).I couldn't push the cue through straight (something I have always done naturally) was skelping the white, not stroking it and moving on the shot, so I went right back to basics, and it turned out I was hitting the white with my grip hand , so the power was coming from that, which made it close straight away which of course pulled it offline on the way through and I think my brain or eyes could see this and the movement was me trying to get it back online during the shot. Now I'm back to the grip being neutral and everything is gradually getting together, I'm never ever tinkering again, I know what I have to do and that's that.

              • Paul is captain of my billiards team, and chairman of the Carlisle snooker league( I think that's his title lol)he's a right good lad, I haven't seen him for a week I have been busy, will probably see him tomorrow , it was him I was playing during my bad patch, (just practice games)didn't help as he was cueing lovely the git lol, if it's the lads I'm thinking of that Paul knocks around with ,you are coming to see it will be a great day for all, as there is not a bad lad amongst them, some right bad players mind lol.
My name will probably get mentioned by anyone from the Portland that wants coaching as everyone knows I have been and If asked I tell everyone to go, I have been asked by lads who couldn't make a twenty break to those that can make fifties but lose form and they can't figure it out, right through to one lad who has a high break of 142 in a county match( I think he seemed the most impressed as I was playing well when asked and he stood and picked a few balls out for me and saw at first hand how much I had improved). I have always said I would recommend it to anyone and I always will.

                  • Just back from the club, played a couple of hours then one of the lads came in and asked for a game, he's very very good on his day, so I jumped at the chance. Playing away, I'm getting stuffed lol, not playing totally poorly couple of thirty odds a couple of twenty odds, but Dave is sticking bigger breaks in behind me and winning the frames, got to around the sixth/seventh frame I'm 4-2 ish behind, the blacks tied up ,I pot a longish red get on the pink end up making a fifty two with only one black in it(I eventually got it cleared) ran out of decent reds and wobbled a tough one , but it was the best break I have ever made, Chris you will know who I was playing Dave Mitch he's had some contact with you I'm sure.
At the end Dave said well done Jim that's another fifty to add to your collection, I said well I suppose I can call it a collection now as I couldn't before as I only had one and you can't call one a collection, but two! Now that's a collection.
To top it off we went to pay and the owner said three quid Jim, (I had been on for two hours before Dave turned up , we played another two hours) three quid for four hours of snooker, I told him I had been on for hours, he wasn't bothered just wanted three quid, Dave gave me two so I got a fifty break and four hours of snooker for a pound, great times.

                        • I can't wait Chris, I'm like a kid in December , those last few weeks waiting are torture.
Cheers Cyberheater, I don't play much at all with other players,so I don't get many chances to make breaks, although recently I got a good thrashing (6-1)from an ex sparring partner of David Gilbert(who he told me has just got his tour card,I'm ashamed to say I don't know who he is) and he was brilliant, so god knows how good these pros are.

I've seen David Gilbert play on TV. He's very good. It's this guy:-

So not surprising his ex sparring partner thrashed you. Good to be playing someone of that quality.

                            • If that's David Gilbert that's the guy lol, when I went in he was playing one of my playing partners, I got the table beside them, and my pal had to go so the lad asked if I fancied a few frames. I won the first( 24 and 37 and 16) but he had swapped from the club balls (premiers) to mine TCs so I think he had to adjust a bit as his safeties came up a bit short, it only took him a frame, it then went sixty odd, eighty odd sixty odd fifty odd, fifty odd, I got close on the last one with a couple of twenties but I was never going to win as his safety was immense, I honestly couldn't cope with it, in all the games after the first I let him in, he wasn't even trying that hard but he had me in knots, When we finished I said great games I got well stuffed there 6-1 wasn't it? Yeh he said I beat Andy 10-1!! Andy is a century maker and two time Cumbrian singles champion(I think that's what he won) so I'm taking my one frame as a massive win lol.
It was a pleasure to pick the balls out for the lad, probably the best player I have seen.
