To partially hijack this thread - with regards to the grip, does anybody here hold the butt with the flat portion of the butt facing to your right (for a right hander). This way, the chevrons face your right/out, and what you see are the straight grains (on an ash cue).

I tried this today to get a more consistent feel of my grip, and found that it worked quite well.

On my Parris, there are about 5 or 6 chevrons on one side, and plain on the other, but just a tiny inch or so grain mark on the other. Personally I don't like chevrons facing up, so as part of my pre-shot drill, as long as my pinky can feel the flat nameplate on the butt, I know the cue is in exactly the same position every time without looking.

I used to hold the cue with the flat to the left (for a right hander) but found I was twisting the cue so resulted to having the flat side up
