  • Ricky's and Ronnie's grip

Apologies if this has already been asked / answered...

I've been watching the Paul Hunter event on Eurosport and having watched Ronnie's and Ricky Waldens matches I noticed that their index fingers seem to be quite loose around the butt..

Do they 'grip' the cue with their middle fingers instead of the index finger?

If so are there any advantages / disadvantages to it ?

I've studied Ronnies cueing for ages. He appears to use his second finger which is a grip I've adopted myself.

ive been using this grip for years, for me theres no difference in the balls with soft to medium shots but when the longer more powerful shots are needs the grip allows me not to cue across the ball and tighten up too much

Second and third finger are used with the rocking motion, I tried it for a while but couldn't decide if I liked it enough to continue...

I've just come back from the club where I've just been trying it - yep, you're spot on! I hardly tightened up on long / power shots.

nipping the cue was problem when I put power into a shot.

Using the middle finger and cradling with the index seemed quite comfortable.
