My brother is trying to improve and I've been giving him some help.
He isn't hitting through the ball very well. His follow through is probably only about 2 inches past the cue ball, whereas mine is about 4 inches.
I've set up his stance and everything, as he is completely new to the game and hasn't really ever played before (he's 25). He looks great on the shot. Nice bridge length, holding the cue at the correct point at the back, and a nice distance from the shot.
However, he's saying that if he delivers the cue through to his chest, it's the fact that his grip hand actually hits his chest and prevents him from going any further.
With me, I think having taken a video of us both, I do drop my elbow very slightly which gives me that extra bit of follow through. It's only very slight. Maybe 1" max.
What are the common reasons preventing that extra follow through?
