  • Table Grid

Excuse me if this has been done before but I thought I'd share some of what was shown to me by some of the legends of the past.

This is simply a little story about the table, the grid lines and how they relate to understanding the potting angles of the colors from there spots as well as the navigation of the cue ball. Fortunately I can go into this at great depth with the help of some slides.
Okay so I'll start us off with the 1/4 x 1/8 grid map and wait for feedback. In the meantime if you want an angle of a color into a pocket put it up and I'm sure it can be answered.
    enjoy:

You mentioned this in another thread. I put it together.

Lesson 1: Put the white behind the brown and on the cushion, potting the brown in either black pocket is 3/4 ball, same with the green and yellow. Blue would be 1/2 and pink 1/4. This guide goes on all around the table.

Lesson 2: Put the white it the jaws of the black pocket now and pot the yellow, brown ,green they will be 3/4, 1/2 and green into the yellow pocket is 1/4 ball.

    Original Source: http://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/boa...#ixzz2l68yOYm9

Lesson 3: white on the side cushion parallel with the pink, potting the pink in the corner or middle is the same angle 1/4. Black in its pocket and blue in the top corner are both 3/4 ball. Oh and if you play that black i just mentioned with top at pace the white should go in the middle pocket. It is what it is. For some players it is an enlightening moment

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
    I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Which old legends of the past showed you this map?

Any more info on this would be great. Very interesting idea.

How does the "as well as the navigation of the cue ball" fit into this?

      Thanks!

Tony Hitchens introduced me to this.
Regarding white navigation, after a color has been potted 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 off its spot the white should have a location that would correlated with a pocket, another color spot or a line on the grid if you play plane ball or top.
Example: play a 3/4 ball high black with top and the white should go into the middle pocket, played plane ball at the same pace the white should go into the middle pocket the side of the table your playing the shot from.
          enjoy

What is this for J6 ? I didn't want to ask Incase it was so obvious lol, but it's got the better of me and I had to. When I play billiards there is something similar (maybe) for in offs, if White is near middle bag red on black spot is an half ball in off, into bottom bag, white near bottom bag pocket, red on spot is a half ball in off into the opposite bottom bag, on reset white on blue spot ball in hand placed one ball width in from edge of d and one ball back is an half ball in off into bottom bag, is it for this type of thing, so you have a general idea of what the shots take according to the whites position on the table, sorry if I haven't got it, but I genuinely want to know what it's for, cheers
Should add these shots are played centre ball with a bit of top.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Elaborate. What are you not quite there about?

I'm worried about you, you just cut and pasted your last post
I think it might be more helpful for you if you give me a scenario and I will try and resolve it for you. What shot do you have problems with?

I was just unsure what you meant by the part quoted above in bold especially.

So if I pot the blue say half ball into the middle pocket, where does the cue ball travel using your map?

Or if I pot the pink ball say half ball into the top pocket, where does the cue ball travel using the map?

                      Thanks!

Half ball blue should be going over yellow or green spot and a plain ball half ball pink the white would be running over the 1/4 or 3/4 point point on the grid .
                        Pic to be loaded..

I'm sorry but the cue ball tends not to be in these precise positions in a game so these 1/2, 3/4 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, or whatever, of a ball does not work, to me

what never? Don't worry, you just need a little practice
But you know its a guide and its not about the cue ball being in that exact position but 'roughly on that line' so you can make the judgement.
This can give a player so much confidence, especially under higher level competitive pressure.

Ah yes I thought that's what it was , a rough guide to what shot your looking at,which will also give you a guide to the white ball travel, with just adjustments for the white in different places, which experience will teach you, just like the billiards.
