  • what is there to be learnt from defeat

Ive been playing in a local snooker league I have won all of my games but one and feel I play better under pressure,
I know pros get beat in comps all the time,
but my question is what is there to be learnt from defeat,
in the match I lost I didn't play very well not taking that away from my opponent from what his team members have said that's the best he has ever played and yes I can say I was beat by the better player on the night,
but there must be something to learn from defeat,
I don't tend mull things over after
    I played crap got beat,
simple as that I don't moan about luck because I feel I you were not looking at the table when they played how would you know if they were lucky or not,
I try to play the balls as they are,
but there must be a lesson here some where?
    looking forward to the replys!!!

I dont think there is. Its a fact of life that some times you will play carap or shall we say below par. Like you say even the pros do it. Just accept thats the way it is and look forward to the next match.

Closure. The ability to play the next shot/frame/match as though the previous never happened.

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

i agree with maverick, if your looking for answers i dont think your going to find one as you've highlighted you had a poor game. i suppose you could start looking deeper into why you had a poor game, what is shot selection? did you miss easy pots? was your safety game off? more importantly have you changed something? but also if you have left your opponent in every time they are in essence having an easy start.
now lets look at the physcology-you have won all the games you have played apart from one......are you getting bored of winning and you didn't play as well as you normally would cause your heart wasnt in the game? just a thought.
also love the fact you didnt take anything away from your opponent-not many people i play with can do that, they complain about how poor they played but not how they were out played
