Hey people, I seem to be getting mixed up with my grip and wrist movement. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Should the cue be held between the main knuckles of the forefinger and thumb or just below in between the pads??? And on the wrist movement, considering a locked wrist won't the cue go upwards during the follow through as you drop the elbow??

J6 wow great footage. And that's one player I dream of playing like one day.. Seems to me like he grips the cue with his thumb and middle finger. Also seems he used the 'del drive' type of stroke. What are your thoughts over that??

So in your technique, do you prefer the locked or loose grip???
The cue rests between the top and middle joints of my fingers and the only pressure I put on is with the front two fingers.
The fingers open on the backswing and close back to where they were on the delivery with the first finger then relaxing on the strike in order to keep the cue level through the stroke as the tip strikes the cue ball.
The amount the fingers open on the backswing is dictated by the length of the backswing according to the power needed for the shot. Almost off the cue for extreme power, just loosen them a bit for gentle shots.
I let the momentum of the stroke naturally dictate the length of my follow through, I don't push the cue through to a certain point on every stroke, but I do try to end the stroke when the cue hits the palm of my hand so as not to allow my shoulder to drop before the strike.
The cue hits the palm of my hand about two inches beyond the cue ball, which is where the stroke ends on gentle shots but with power the momentum takes it beyond that but still controlled so as not to drop that shoulder.

I'm now making pots with so much ease and generating so much spin without having to smack the balls hard... Only other issue I seem to be having is I seem to finishing with my grip hand wrist joint hitting my right nipple. I don't know if this is right cause it seems my tip is hitting higher than intended.. Which part of the grip should hit the chest, any thoughts??
Keep practising.

Thanks Terry. Yesterday tried out this method of directing the stroke using the thumb as you said and the results are great. My stroke is even smoother now.... I just have to work on my screwbacks now, I seem to be hitting higher than intended probably cause of the fear of chipping the white. And what are your thoughts on the Del Drive vs the slight elbow drop vs loose wrist when dealing with screw backs???

As for what part of your grip hand touches your chest on the follow through, well that is entirely down to your stance and is a personal thing. My grip hand doesn't touch my chest at all on the follow through.
Keep practising.
