hi , i have been watching del hiil coaching a pupil on youtube . my question is , as the guy is getting down to the shot del says to him tip to the ball ,aiming chest to cue before he strikes the cue ball . what does he mean when he says aiming ,what is he asking the pupil to do. He does not explain what aiming is as the guy gets down. .he says tip to ball first which has confused me as i always thought as we got down we looked at the object ball first before we look at the tip . He says to the pupil to aim on the way in to the shot , what does he mean . thanks for any help

When he says tip to ball, he's telling the student place the cue on the line. No feathers until you are set, you place the cue and build your stance before you start feathering. Aiming on the way into the shot essentially means to aim while standing up, don't adjust when you are down on the shot. All of the alignement and set up occurs as you are standing and getting down on the ball.
That's my best guess anyways. It's tough to tell without know what specifically Del Hill was focusing on with this player and what they were trying to achieve. But it sounds like he was focusing on alignement and set up.

He's advocating using the chest as a point of contact.
Line the shot up, drop down, chin and chest and the cue... As long as you've lined up the shot correctly on approach, the chest will help deliver the cue on the correct line. This is because it's very easy to feel if it has moved off the line.
Make sure you put the chest on the cue and not bring the cue to the chest.
