I agree - got to get the fundamentals right first - so I did this - remove green - walk into shot along the baulk line - get down cue up to brown stay perfectly still drop cue down - now look - is it - your cue - level on the balk line?

yes good move on - who needs sight right -

no then practice until perfect - keep the line - body to cue and a few other bits and bats that you may have to help your own particular style - or sumthin like that

I read this several times before I picked up on the bolded part. I agree. This sounds like a good idea if you can drop the cue down in a perfect straight line. I suppose a good method would be to bend you knees very slowly and drop down. It shouldn't take much because the cue should be only be a fingers width above the cushion at the rear so your not traveling far down.

What about your bridge hand. The cue will still be resting between your thumb and first finger?

The idea is that you can see if your cue is online especially at the back - works -try it - I used to have a habit of pulling the cue inwards slightly to the hip as I got down this simple exercise helped me eliminate this flaw - you can always get someone at the side of you to hold the cue still - I can manage to do it myself.

ya, i agree most important is get the back of the cue on the line first. the other thing to note is the V must be on the line as well as ur sighting. i found that this worked for me in this order; back of cue, the V followed by the sighting.
i have a theory that if the back of cue is on line, but your V is not, your cueing will skewering left or right from the line depending on where your V ends up and regardless of whether you are sighting correct.
            can anyone confirm this?

Well I tried a DIY sightright device and found that my cueing was bang on under my left eye. Line was unbroken with both eyes open and with my right eye closed nothing changed at all.
So I guess my stance is perfect for the way I sight the line of aim, but it certainly isn't text book.

Think I need my eyes tested because I still see double lines on the bottom step every time lol

sight right only checks your alignment at the front - my method checks both front and back of the cue are in line.

What is your method for getting the back hand online? I have a bad habit of pulling the cue in sometimes a very small amount. I know when I've done it because when I pull the cue back it goes slightly out to in - like my brain knows it is slightly wrong and corrects on the way back.

I used to do this and it was because my thumb was wrapped round the butt instead of pointing down vertically to the floor and also I was not slightly twisting my hips to the left; so unconsciously I was moving the butt outwards so the thumb didn't hit my hips waist on the draw back and delivery.
Not saying that is happening to you but the hip twist helped greatly and the thumb pointing down ensured I had a nice wrist-alignment.

Well everyone is different how they get down or approach the shot so use that method I described to find your own way - I did it by planting my lead foot down and finding the line from the inside of my heel and I have a habit of swooping down on the shot just standing behind it one step in - a bit like you actually from the video I saw although you seem to get down cue and body at the same time my cue goes down first slightly before my body locks on - i don't walk in to the shot much again like you - kind of figure less movement the better. Sort of place my back hand over the line and the inside of my heel before I get down - cue down - body to cue -

Everyone should work at it there own way - what I do wont work for everyone else but the exercise I do is one way to practice getting down and keeping the cue straight at the back -

I found this hard to describe but helpful to me because I need to do it again - because of a injury my stance has changed - I too need to find a new way of getting down without being in pain.

A longer and slower backswing (which his coaches tried to remove earlier in his playing career), and a more deliberate and longer back pause. Everyone has a certain amount of time they need to refocus their eyes and mind on the object ball. Shaun has definitely changed these two areas. Again, without confirmation from him, I can't say for sure. He DID say on interview that he is going back to OLD ways, which indicates to me, he is going back to the cue action that he had before winning the worlds.

Byrom just to make it clear to me do you, get down on the baulk line then place the butt of the cue down, stand up (leaving your bridge hand in place) and check the baulk line is running right through the middle of the butt, is that right?

Yes - remove green cue up to brown as if hitting the brown cue low to table - stay still drop butt straight down and then the tip and remove hand and check alignment of cue with the line on the baulk - you can work on walking in and dropping down until you find a way that suits your style personally - This is a simple exercise that helped me correct pulling the cue in to the hip as I got down and it helped me learn to get down and cue straight - body to cue - more consistently on line.
