  • A good routine for mid to long potting practise I've found.

I saw this on a youtube vid and it's really helped me in my mid to long potting.

Place all the balls in a straight line between the two middle pockets so that they are roughly an inch apart.

Place the white somewhere along the balk line directly in line with the first ball so that it's a straight long pot into the black pocket.

    - On the first shot. Play it plain ball.
    - Second shot play it with stun such that white ends up exactly where the objet all was.
    - Third shot play it with follow though so that the white travels forward and either goes down the pocket or hits the black rail.
    - 4th shot, play it with screw such that the white screws back to at least the balk line. Rinse and repeat.

If you miss the shot, replace it and keep doing the same type of shot until it goes in and you've completed the positional side of the shot correctly. In that way it's sort of self correcting in that if you are good at stun shots but not great with follow though then you'll speed more time doing the follow through shot until it goes in.

Keep doing that until you've potted all the balls.

I've noticed a quick improvement for me.

      Here you go.

      Starts around 2:15

I don't do it in the same order he says and I add plain ball.

A very important part of practise that sadly I've not done yet. Will start tomorrow.

Sum good stuf like the one hitting white ball between two reds on back cushion

A good routine for mid to long potting practise I've found.

reds across the table across the the blue spot (the wall), cueball on the baulk line. Pot to the corner black pockets. If you pot, 2 points, if you just miss, 1 point and move the red into the middle bags. If you miss big-time, 0 point and move the red to the baulk pockets. Do all 15 reds, add up your score and try to beat it next time.
You can do this either as absolute straight shots to practice those or with an angle if you wish (do the same alignment for all reds).
Then for long shots do the wall between blue and pink spot; and then move the wall down to across the pink spot.
              Up the TSF! :snooker:

yes this routine shown in the video by Alan Trigg. I had my first 2 coaching sessions by him, a very knowledgeable coach.

this routine is tough. so can take quite a while to complete. one could make it easier by placing the balls half way between the blue spot and the baulk line. and when that gets mastered move them forward a few inches and so forth until they are level with the blue spot.

I practise at M & D's at Strathclyde park as my local working mans club had decided to only open up during the day from Frid to Sun. There are other places I could go but M & D's are only £2 a hour.

In the evenings. I go to the Low Waters Miners Club.

Yes it is tough. Took me at least 25 mins of hard concentration to complete.
