  • Foot on line or follow the head

HI ive been playing a lot of late really working hard on my technique but ive come to a bit of a concern,
my ex coach always said my right foot on the line of aim then drop down on to the shot,
my stance was very square and I played ok,
but for the last few weeks I have tried not think about my feet and just using my griphand and head to drop into the line of the shot then chest to cue, then I have more of a boxer stance and it feels better more secure,
but I play ok using both methods
ive knocked in 13 long straight blues from baulk in a row using the head drop technique.
and 8 using the right foot technique,
but when my game is struggling I find it hard to choose which way to go and often change after a few poor matches,
like anything you need a strong foundation to build on,
I don't believe in the dominate eye theory so my cueing is dead centre. my grip is the alex Higgins style I feel I less likely to flick this way and more pushing through to chest,
just looking for some advice from better players which way to go and to FINALLY STICK TO IT!!!!

just a quick note my follow the head technique is line the shot up through the centre of my body then my head moves first like im falling on the line of the shot then grip hand and cue coming on line, tip to the white then chest to cue front pause few feathers front pause again eyes on ob pulling cue back using chest to keep cue straight ish!!!! shoot push through to chest,
chin comes of cue as in last post because I drop my elbow and I stay down until completion

Classical theorists on snooker will always try to dictate the position of your feet, head, etc, but if it's not producing results for you, then why bother. The issue with your boxer stance is that it's possible for some shots to elude you, whereas having perfect form will provide greater precision (along cushions for example). Sometimes, our eyes fool us when we are down because the eyes tell you it looks good, but the results don't show. If you can knock in long balls consistenly with your own style, then perhaps it's better to stick with it. Videos will help a lot to see so post some up on Youtube and share so that we can all comment more

I used to be a foot online player and cocked over a bit to keep the head online, but was shown the the centre line aiming and not being too bothered with the feet as long as it's solid, and it made more sense to me. The old adage of the less moving parts, the less can go wrong is what I have always believed, especially in hand eye coordination, so eliminating the cocking over bit which is hard to do exactly right every time in conjunction with the foot online and replacing it with feet close together line in the centre (which gives the line of aim along the instep or heel)drop straight down on that line made more sense to me as it was bio mechanically simpler.
