Not too sure I agree with comments by Steve Davis especially when he is also supposed to be in charge of accrediting coaches. Doesn't sound great when he seems to suggest that if your not a good player then you might as well give up trying to be a better one. suppose it depends how he defines a bad player and a good player.
coaching is not just for the pros

there could be some truth in that. but/or is he saying that if your not a good player then don't bother becoming a coach?

Of course you need to be a good player to be a good coach...

If you can't do it yourself to a decent degree then you're nothing more than a middleman passing on the thoughts of others.

You wouldn't learn to drive from an instructor who couldn't drive himself.

And the story of the lad who was a 20 break player who then made a total clearance of 137 a year or two later is utter bollocks. If you'd said he made a low ton, it could have been realistic.

Irritates me when I hear nonsense like that...

Yes but surely all those that regularly put in tons used to be a 20 break player at one point.

He started having coaching off Andreas Ahmed (I think) a World Snooker coach back then. Every week you'd see the lad practicing, working on what Andreas told him. 18 months / 2 years later - a 137 clearance in pro am.

He bought himself a John Parris cue as well. Let's add that in.

He's done well to get that delivered before his 137.
