  • Is it just a coincidence?

Hi. I really don't want to bother people with this again but I've gone through a load of threads and haven't found a definitive answer. If the majority of right-handed people have right eye dominance then why do the majority of right-handed players play under their left eye? Even if the players are left-handed they play under their right eye. Is it because the benefits of a compact stance outweigh the benefits of playing under the dominate eye? Surely if you line up the shot correctly it doesn't matter. You see players saying they can close their eyes and pot once they have lined up the shot. Thoughts?

Hornets nest pal... Don't worry about it... Paralysis by analysis.

pottr is right. Forget about dominant or preferred eye as there are long and acid strings on here about it.

The set-up is more important so just set-up normally and practice, practice, practice and you'll improve

I was aware I approached with caution. I'm just right eye dominate but prefer the cue to be on the left side of my chin so I will just stick with that if it doesn't matter

The idea is that your brain will, through practice, compensate for it.

well we could start talking about the heart being on the left side of the body and the body grows around the heart in a spiral.. but that might not be relevant for now.. just get your head down, don't move it, hold the cue light and, hit from the elbow

I though most right handed people were left eye dominant and lefties right eyed .

Eithet way i just trust my brain to put my chin on the cue in the correct place

The majority of the population are dominant in their right eye but I don't know if there is a correlation between eye dominance and handedness.

for the current 131 players on the money list I have the following figures:
these are purely by my observation of the TV etc., and the Eyed is how I see the cue aligned under the eye or the chin (centred).
It is interesting that many do cue across from the hand to the opposite eye.

                    Right Handed + Right Eyed = 4
                    Right Handed + Left Eyed = 10
                    Right Handed + Centre Eyed = 31
                    R+L + Centre Eyed = 1 (ROS )

                    Left Handed + Right Eyed = 4
                    Left Handed + Left Eyed = 0
                    Left Handed + Centre Eyed = 9

                    Right Handed + Unknown Eyed = 56
                    Left Handed + Unknown Eyed = 11

Unknown Handed + Unknown Eyed =5

It must be an advantage to cue across as it is likely that a lot of the right handed players doing so are right eye dominant.

                        Impressive research and observation.

I wonder who the 'Right Handed + Right Eyed' snooker players you identified are?

Thanks. I'm right handed and right eyed dominate. From the youtube vids I've seen of Milkins and McGill. They both cue right of the of the chin.
