  • I can feel your pain & frustration through the words you write, everyone has been there ( I am still there now). As long as you are dedicated willing to learn and put in the time you will improve, maybe not at the pace you may think you should but nevertheless you will get better.

PAIN is that what you call it. I have broke both of my arms over the years and that pain is MILD compared to this game we call SNOOKER. Tonight I thought I would concentrate on just two reds with two Blacks, Pinks or Blues after an hour I made it once. Packed things up and that's enough. I have been putting myself through this frustration for over two years. At a loss as to what I should be practicing. I think with my bad arm I have made this game twice as hard as it should be. 80% of the time my bridge hand is balancing with my fingers because my wrist won't bend to allow me to keep my palm on the table.

I got it covered. Not sure if it was you that said making my pockets would not help who ever it was they where right. In golf language I would consider myself a hack. That guy on the range that could practice 8 hours a day with a thousand dollar driver and still will never break a hundred. That's me... John Parris Cue with all the extensions, Two GBL and really all I deserve and need is some bent house cue.

        • You don't have to make 100 breaks to have fun Les.

Play your son, try and clear the colours, have a laugh.

We're not all Ronnie O' Sullivan, but we can still have fun on the baize! Enjoy yourself Les, don't worry about how many balls you're potting.

back to the original thread and if you take a look at episode 2 of Ronnie OSullivans show that was broadcast before the world champs he says he doesn't know what he looks at on the shot and that it sometimes is the cue ball.

              • When he says he doesn't know what he's doing, does he really mean he's not thinking about it he's just doing it ,like his stance grip etc, he knows what he's doing with them, but he's not thinking about them, I bet if you asked him what he's doing with his stance on every shot the answer would be the same," I don't know"he has done this shot routine so many times it's automatic, so in a way he doesn't know because it's just a natural thing to him now.

This makes the game very hard Les, movement on the bridge is a big no no, and if you have a floating bridge hand you will be very susceptible to some movement, not only up and down but side to side, I would try and get a stance that gets your bridge hand solidly on the table.
As for you only deserving a bent house cue. You deserve whatever you want, you work for it, so you deserve it, just learn to enjoy it.

I know what your saying but for me it is a hard thing to get my mind around. I have never done anything for fun. I love to compete. So smacking it around and making 10 to 20 breaks does not interest me. When I start runing in 50's on a regular basis I will be having fun and enjoying the game. I wish I had a coach near by that I could work with on a regular basis. Both Terry and Cliff are 2 hour drives. I spoke with Nic Barrow a while ago and he said he could setup some Skype training so that might be the way to go. Either that or go back to my Snooker Gym set and stick with it. I guess you could say I really do not have good focus when it comes to practicing I am all over the board.

The only way I will ever get my palm on the table is to switch hands and start over but that won't work because then my cue arm will have no movement to actually stroke the cue. I will just keep working away at it. I know I need to get by my frustrations and enjoy trying to work on setting goals to beat.

                      • I don't know if you could play with a kind of pad under your hand or forearm to put your weight on, I don't even know if that's legal.

Having fun and taking it seriously are not mutually exclusive.

You can enjoy your games and your progression.

Don't you enjoy getting in a good long red (for only one point)?
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Earl the Pearl wears weights on his arms during some of his pool games.

Plus earplugs and a very long cue.

                            Is that legal in snooker?

itsnoteasy, I agree with you and I think that's the key. It should be subconcious and I think if a player pots balls to a high standard then telling them to look at the object ball on delivery if they don't already might mess them up. Personally for a beginner I would say look at the object ball but I think the point Chris Henry is making is should you change someone just to make them 'textbook' when it could harm their game.

Who doesn't. It's your next shot at a perfect black that you miss or you make it with no shape on your next red that burns me. Not sure if that comes down to lack of concentration brought on by me being a diabetic or stress load at work.
