  • Hey this is not fair, you guys are all talking about me while I am sleeping..... your not suppose to talk about someone when he is not there to defend himself...... You have all made valid points. I guess maybe the quote "I will Master this game" was maybe a little to strong. I guess what I was trying to say as I will get to a stage that I can compete and not look like hack. The qualifiers that Terry, Floyd and I play in each month have a few very good players and then there are some average players and then there are the players like myself. My goal for this coming season is to move up to the average players where I can beat them on a good day and win the odd game off the very good players. As much as sometimes I have said to Terry I am through with this game I cannot stop thinking about it. I really don't think a 50 break is out of reach and that is my goal by Christmas. Don't get me wrong that is only part of the game I love my safety play also.

Just when you think your onto something with this game, you miss one right over the bag, for apparently no obvious reason, that's the game saying "hang on sunshine, you've not earned this yet" it just gives your bum a wee smack and sends you on your way.

don't get me wrong i'm not offended in the slightest. the thought never crossed my mind. all i was getting at was there are lots of players as determined as Les, but in les's case he posts his frustrations publicly where as other keep it to themselves.

Les is like someone who keeps trying to drown themselves, a lot of cries for help and splashing around , so someone throws him a lifeline and tells him to get swimming lessons before he goes back in, only for him to turn around and go straight back in, but it doesn't matter how many times he's drowning it's human nature to try and save him.

Problem is though Les that you keep hijacking all the coaching threads and it always ends up about you.
I have never in my life heard of a bloke who can hardly string three balls together buying his own table and entering tournaments.

You have to learn the game and gain some sort of proficiency at it before expecting to progress in tournament play.

Richie Blackmore didn't audition for Deep Purple just a week after getting his first guitar and learning to play a G chord.

I am with you on that but if I had not of started playing in tournaments I would not of met all the guys that I now have over to play. I would still be down stairs playing by myself. Just Think I have had the World Champion, Canadian Champion and could have been the Senior Champion all playing and coaching on my table. I am a walking book of knowledge on Snooker if I could just put into my game..... LOL

                      • Lose the fear Les. Go to your snooker room, and hit the ball with authority. Doesn't matter if you miss, it's just practice.

Stop trying too hard. Don't be scared. Hit the ball with authority and see what happens.

Les, KNOWING and PROVING are two different things. And in snooker, the best proof is in winning and showing breaks. RESULTS are all we can go on to get an honest estimation of your abilities. You can say you that you are a walking book, and in fact you probably know more than the average newbie, but believe me, there is a humongous of knowledge that is still out there and untapped. Getting past cue action and understanding the intricacies of ball striking is in fact only the BEGINNING of this game. There is a vast amount of knowledge about break building, match play, game psychology, break planning, beating opponents, and so much more that isn't talked about much here at all.

Focus on working on cue action and ball striking and getting past the point where you are missing easy shots. You won't be able to progress much beyond where you are at without a fairly decent potting average. Once you have potting control, then you can also start working on cue ball control, and then you have some raw tools to build simple breaks. Once potting isn't an issue any more, then working on break planning and ball selection will improve your game.

If you are forever stuck in cue action, potting, and basic cue ball control, you will find it difficult to progress much beyond that. You should at least reach a point where potting high percentage shots in the short game isn't an issue.

lesedwards, out of interest how much do you play? If you are playing fairly often and not improving something is very wrong.

I try to practice for an hour every night. Very few games this time of year.
