  • I'm sure I admitted this ages ago when there was a thread about high breaks or lying about your high break, something along those lines.
At the time I hadn't or more to the point couldn't do two reds and a black on the line up, sometimes I still struggle to do it lol.

I really like the metaphor or wrapping myself around the cue, another one of my faults is being a little bit late with my cue sweep.
It's horrible seeing yourself cue lol.
I have just noticed what you mean, I'm half feathering on the way down, good spot, I will really work on that, I didn't even notice it myself.
yeah i think you've been watching les too much and he's given you that cue forwards and back thing as you drop down. another worrying thing is that careless sidism by flicking all the balls around with your cue to set them up, thats so sloppy i can't tell you. it might sound harsh but if someone came to me with that i wouldn't take them seriously, i would think they've got something else on their mind and they didn't really want to be there.
yes cris is right, no cock or cocking is needed.

        Hey Jim

As others have mentioned you are getting many things right but its your modesty and honesty has impressed me most here. These two will serve you well as you develop.

What J6UK had said about wrapping yourself around the cue is what I would like to see you do too. What I saw was a technique that could be performed just about anywhere, on the dining table, on a park bench, even over J6UK's now famous hob. You weren't just anywhere you are at a snooker table :snooker: Following his advice will allow you to develop more of a feel for the shots and in turn get you holding position more.

        You're doing well mate!

        • Be as harsh as it takes, it's the only way I will learn, setting the balls up like that is a habit I have picked up to stop me having to bend over the table as much because of my back, but it's not sore just now so I shouldn't do it, but you are right I am lazy with things and I get onto myself no end about it.

Wrapping myself around the cue, does this mean getting on top of the cue so I get down with it?, I notice my cue is kind of down then I get on top of it.

Still, a genuine progress then. Not many club players can claim that. Most will play decades without ever improving. You're not one of those, that much is clear. Just keep practising and higher numbers wll follow eventually,

Tough to see what's going on with the lack of lighting on the grip side but on the positive side you are nice and still on the shot, you drive through the cueball well, couldn't tell too much on the stance.

The one thing I can recommend is to stand behind the shot with the cue across the upper thighs and have the grip hand right about where it's going to be in the address position (over the left foot). As j6 has said, then keeping the head on the line and drop straight down into the address position by bending the right leg and moving the hips to the right and back such that the back remains almost straight. This will mean the grip hand hasn't moved very much at all while you're assuming the address position. When you first place your right foot out the tendency is for the head to also move to the right but combat that by leaning to the left a bit to ensure your head remains on the line of aim or in other words you don't lost the line of aim and have to re-capture it when in the address position.

I would also recommend you slow down both the feathers and especially the final backswing. Your backswing should be slow, determined and SMOOTH with the cue remaining on the same plane. I noticed your cue was dropping on the delivery which might mean you will be hitting the cueball higher than you intended but it was hard to see exactly when the elbow was dropping. Alignment looked good too.

                  • Thanks Terry, it's so frustrating as I have been told all of this, but with only getting limited coaching time, my bad habits creep back in.
Not much I can do about the lighting, the club was buzzing today, there was one other table on lol.

Get in your car and get up to Edinburgh to see Chris for 2-3 hours or so...that will iron out the kinks

(by the way, I haven't seen him on here or Facebook in a long time...I hope he's all right and just really busy)

                      • He can't get on here for some reason Terry, like a lot of us I think he struggles with this computer lark, and yes he's really busy.
I have had some very good advice from the folk on here, it may just have saved me a bit of money
