Anyway, the stance and the whole body posture in snooker must be comfortable so I hope DDadams you find a stance for you. This is the problem of using online/DVD coaching that it can NEVER be better than 1to1 with a real-live coach
DD - where about's are you located, maybe there is someone close enough to help you?
Just for curiosity ,could you explain what the coach was trying to do with your stance Dean, I don't quite get the foot and pocket thing.

whichever appropriate foot points to the pocket you are wanting to pocket the OB to, depends on which side of the table and which handed you are, etc.
I thought it was well off and twisting the foot was awkward and painful.
I may have got this wrong with my understanding but this coach was adamant and we spent some time over this as I just could not see if this was right.

I am in agreement with most of the comments on here regarding turning BOTH your feet outwards from the line of aim as pointing them both along the line of aim is very bad for knee and ankle pain and perhaps hip pain too. My wife is a physio who is certified in 'Fit for Golf' and 'Fit for Tennis' where she comes up with a technique for players who are experiencing pain when using the orthodox techniques and I checked with her to see what could be done regarding the snooker stance as I was experiencing pain, especially knees.

She recommended I turn both my feet outwards just a bit, perhaps 20* plus I have discovered on my own I am much more comfortable with my left foot slightly ahead of my right (right-handed player). To spare you the expense and time of a long drive first try out this method and see if it relieves your discomfort. I can also attest there is no discernible degradation of accuracy when using the partial boxer stance as accuracy is more dependent on your upper body alignment and how many moving parts you have as a result of that alignment.

I don't mind the drive if you're willing to help a pool player out!

That's the only thing. I'm really focused on getting my fundamentals as PERFECT as I possibly can. So that's something later this year maybe we can do? I'd make the drive if we could do at least a couple days, 6-8 hours a day or something.

I did 8 hours with a pool instructor in November who had a snooker background but after that had went back to pool stance after another instructor hit my interest. Worst/best mistake ever. I had to start over again from zero twice. Just now getting back to playing around where my top speed was before, but I know I can progress MUCH MUCH further.

I just need to get these fundamentals SOLID.

I'm about to head out, going to try what you guys said with the placement. I'll post updates when I get back or from the hall on my phone.

I had a huge lapse for 5 months where I was playing MUCH below my usual speed where I was after my lessons with my first instructor.

I tried to switch everything over to the pool style the second instructor taught and it ruined my game. I'm still getting back to how I played before.

OK, that's not a problem for me. I would recommend 6hrs a day rather than a full 8hr but only because an 8hr coaching day would probably kill me. I can give you a motel contact nearby. The technique is basically the same for all cue sports so what I teach you on my snooker table will carry over into pool and should make you much more accurate.

My rate is $50(CAN) per hour (about $45 US) and for 12hrs I can give you a 20% discount. If you have a snooker cue bring it and your main pool cue although I have spares here for my student's use.

I'll be in touch with you soon. I won't have the extra time off until the end of summer / early fall.

Yes, sorry. That's pool term I guess. We call it speed, or actually sometimes "balls".

Like, if you were just a little bit better than me, we might say "itsnoteasy is about a ball better than DDadams" or if you were much better we'd say you were 4-5 balls better perhaps.

Or, "DDadams will never even be close to the Ronnie O'Sullivans speed"

Got it ,thanks, when I first read it I thought you meant if you played well you played really fast.

To put how "fast" I play when I play well into perspective, let's just say if I were playing Ronnie he would lose because he would get so frustrated at just how slow I play that he would forfeit out of boredom.

My big problem now though is that when I'm in a square on stance like Del Hill recommends on youtube my right knee HURTS BAD after I finally take a break and actually bend it. I've started to wear a knee brace that has helped a little but I feel like I'm actually destroying my knee a little bit in doing this.

Any advice on the matter? Anyone else have this issue?
sounds like you could be suffering from a lazy leg. i guess your right handed and the pain is in your right knee. with a square on stance you can neglect your left leg and put most of your body weight over your right leg, leaving the left leg limply along side or even dragging behind. so it could be about balance and body weight distribution

does the problem exist if you slightly bend both legs? You can then stand Square on but without the pain. Also leaning into the shot should help.
