This works for me and Jimmy White and Mathew Stevens and many many others as well, I've even seen Ronnie do it on occasion. Somethings happening and I've tried to explain what I think it is, but seeing as it works there is no need to question it so give it a go. Just walk around, take a look, go back and sight the shot and let the short term memory do what it evolved to do.

my problem is not seeing bob, its working out how to send the white on the correct line to contact the correct spot on the object ball to pot it. THE TIP IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WHITE BALL BUT IT IS THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE WHITE THAT MAKES CONTACT ON BOB . I JUST CANT WORK OUT THE CORRECT LINE . ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT .

Because seen the contact area of OB, is one thing. And sending the CB to the contact area of OB with proper technique , is an other thing. Many coaches believe that the hand follows the eye. No doubt about that. But if you hit/strik the CB not on right way and with proper technique, you will miss the pot ( even if u do'nt take ur eyes of the OB )!!!

Stop making potting sound so complicated it really is not hard to pot a ball, yes you are going to miss at times, but if you are at the stage where you are struggling to visualize the contact of a ball then i suggest coaching lessons live 1 to 1 is your best bet.

The big thing I've noticed is that so many think they're aiming their cue down the line of aim and therefore think that the line of aim is only as wide as the tip of the cue.
That is a wrong assumption; the line of aim is as wide as the cue ball and it's the cue ball that you aim towards the object ball to contact it (OB) in a particular place to make the pot.
The cue is used as a method of propulsion and yes it's vital to get the cue on the line of aim in order that the cue ball travels in a straight line, but the tip of the cue is not pointing at the contact point on the object ball so therefore it's wrong to see the tip of the cue as the line of aim and to use the tip of the cue for aiming purposes.
All a player has to do is to look at the target, which is the contact point on the object ball, and let the eyes guide the feet, body and hands into position to place the cue on the line of aim.
This is the way that the natural human hand and eye co-ordination evolved to work, this is how man became a hunter using tools, and in snooker we are hunting down the contact point on the object ball using tools (the cue ball and the cue) are we not ?

Thanks. This is the best explanation that I've read. I understand this better than ever now. I guess subconsciously I've been doing this in a fashion but this clears it up for once and all.The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I say this because for me it is not an easy game snooker!!! next time, I'm just going to the table and potting balls. No technique!! we don't want that, do we ??
