i like a roll through, but the stun run is the final piece in the puzzle for total cb control

Is the Stun run Thru ever actually 100% necessary?

I think it depends what type of player you are id say. Some feel more comfortable with the softly softly approach. Others feel their cue action holds up better hitting the firmer shot. Personally I prefer the stun run if the option allows for both types. After so may kicks I've learned to think eff it.

I find the stun run quite a difficult shot to pull off. I can do it but to get really good position is tough. I'm just not good enough with the shot. It's very hard for me to judge exactly on the white I need to hit relative to how hard I'm going to hit it, the distance, where I want the white to finish at the pace of the cloth.

On angled shots with stun run through you can create angles that apparently aren't there. With stun screw as well, but in reverse direction obviously.
Straight in shot scenario: cueball/object ball distance half a table or more, but you must follow through only two ball widths and no more. Impossible to pull off using slow roll. Drag shot might work even from that distance, but it is too sensitive to unwanted side, even for guys with great technique.
Definitely a must have shot.
Can you imagine a pro match without seeing stun run through? I can't.

Stun-run-through is an absolute necessity yeah. As ace man has said above, how could you possibly pot a ball that's 8ft from the pocket, and also get the white ball to just run through 1.5" for position.
I mean, the stun run through is used all the time in a break anyway. If you're in the balls, it's amazing how many times you're playing it on loads of angled shots as well.
