Is the Stun run Thru ever actually 100% necessary?

It's all about the follow through...

I think the point on writing a book to encompass all is great. The problem is, unless you can do it already it won't make sense enough to anyone to prove applicable.

I have said it always... It simply does not translate from the page.

If it did, we'd all be clearing the table every visit.

I know others that do this - i think it is a fault though and think I again agree with pottr when he says its all about the follow through - if you punch it as it can cause you to just hit at the front face of the white with more chance of adding unintentional side - it becomes more of a jab than a strike - if you cue through it and judge the pace of the shot correctly you can develop better timing and a smoother more consistent cueing method and in doing so you develop a much better feel of the shot.

Thanks Byrom will try what you suggest, i was sort of checking what pottr meant by follow through did he mean a punch shot with less follow or a normal follow

In reality the only difference between the two is if you punch it which means hitting it harder you need to strike the white higher than if you stroke it with not as much power.

my definition of a punch shot is firm with less follow thats how it feels but who knows what a video would show

Think the point the guys are making is even when you punch a ball still need to cue thru the white not just jab at it, a punch should'nt mean no follow thru.

This is all assuming it's not a light white ball of course, if it is your virtually wasting your time, almost impossible to play a stun run then.

i wish you had not said that i practice with with 1 Gram TCs and league matches on premier balls probably a good 4 grams lighter

not forgetting the variance between the balls on a premier set

Lol good luck ! for light whites may be better trying a soft screw bordering on a drag shot, takes a bit of practice to get the rate of spin right but would be usefull in your league matches.

Always disappointing when you practice on a nice table with proper balls stuff and then turn up to a match and play on a rug with a ping pong white - and people wonder why league snooker is dying out.

Yes very frustrating, and not just league matches, played in the national team championship few weeks ago in newbury, the 3 tables we played on were shocking !
