As the great man (Steve Davis) once said pool is all about positional play and snooker is all about potting.

Cannot take that joke of a game seriously, balls hit cushions 6" away and still go in !! you don't need positional play at all

I don't think Chris would say that - are you trying to wind us all up = 9 ball is hard and snooker relatively easy?

You are a either a bit deluded or you have never played snooker - which is it?

If Ronnie O Sullivan played pool and snooker 100 frames each against your best pool player the winner on frames would be Ronnie every single time and even you admit it - same would be the case out of most of the top 128 pro's and beyond probably - you are the only person I have ever heard to argue otherwise.

Though you are good at maths and geometry so let me put it like this - More frames won = better overall player?
          He did.

          Neither.

          Irrelevant.

No, doesn't work like that. Pick banks or one pocket or 3 cushion rather than 9 ball. Combined scores are meaningless.

In September 2005, he (o'sullivan) announced that he would play a truncated 2005/2006 season, spending some time playing*eight-ball*pool in the United States, having been chosen to compete on the elite*International Pool Tour.[97][98]

Maybe not a full year, I was mistaken about that. Full report here, plenty of others on the interweb if you care to search. One or two of his matches are also on youtube, where you can see he was outclassed by the likes of quintin hann. He also, rightly, identifies his break as his major weakness. Breaking is not something you master quickly.

in defence of Rory - who made the point - you correctly mention Hann beat O Sullivan in one event at pool though Ronnie did ok - Hann was a cross over player with quite good technique - key word - that played both games - so let us look at what Ronnie did to him at snooker just to even it up.

Your argument does not stand up Mr Big Shot.

Put it this way, i break with more power than SVB, yet get nowhere near the action in the balls. It really does need to be seen to be believed. It is as impressive as any shot in cue sports IMO.
Do you mean he able to get the pack to split better than most with less power?
Yes. He breaks around 21 mph, yet will get a better spread and layout that those with monster breaks (the highest are around 35 mph). It is rarely advantageous to break really hard, as balls separate and then cluster again.

He will also have a good idea where each ball will land, including the CB. Most top players are rack mechanics and have spent considerable time studying the break. They know what effects minute gaps have in the rack, which is why they always study the rack before breaking. Joe Tucker's racking secrets book will have been learned and pattern racking perfected.

The break is one reason why 9 ball is broken at pro levels, and why it is unwatchable.

I can't get youtube links to open from this site for some reason, so i dont know. If i wanted to i could link o'sullivan sat in his chair, sometimes with towels on his head. I wont because i was there live, and it was painful to watch, but proves nothing.

And which argument would that be? That top pool players would beat top snooker players at pool, and top snooker players would beat top pool players at snooker?

My argument appears sound to me, although you are free to provide your own evidence if you wish.

                      Yes but think about it
With snooker you got to have good technique to pot, the main focus is in the pot, with pool the pot is easier and your focus is in the position
much more able to use the pocket space for position

Sorry cant get the internet link - might be a North Korean thing going on in your country?

If I can describe for you - It proves your guy SVB was sat in the chair looking like a player - whilst our guy Mr Appleton was stood up being one.

Yes i remember the interview that Hann gave where he stated that he could not beat ROS at snooker and ROS was a snooker freak!

Sorry, i meant "good" positional play, as long as you can see a ball, you can pot it lmao

You seem to have a knack of not answering a question - which proves you have lost the argument to everyone really -

Where did he - Chris Melling - say 9 ball is harder than snooker show me the quote -

You are not deluded but yet have never played snooker? - so how do you know what snooker is like to play then? - Perhaps you could be the one who is hideously misinformed - just to quote a bad phrase recently used.

It is not irrelevant its the point - Overall taking into account all frames played at both games Ronnie would be the better player yes or no?

I don't actually know what the hell you mean on this last point sorry - The proper English language system that we gifted your ancestors with really did get messed up by you guys since the time we found your country - my irony is currently lost on you along with your sense of indignation at loosing out on this debate.
