It's laughable really as its common knowledge that talented cueists who can't aren't good enough to make money at snooker switch to pool where they can make money but if you can't make money playing pool then there is zero chance of making any playing snooker.
    If it's'common knowledge', name 20.

Perhaps you mean SOME have switched and made a moderate career at it, the most successful by far being appleton, who was originally an ,er, english pool player anyway.

Still, the mother of idiots is always pregnant, so they say.

No CGI in that film Big Shot, they all learned their shots and played with real wooden cues on real 9 ball tables and what they did was realistic enough to pass as game play, especially Cruise's huge break shot, which as you pointed out is the real difference between Van Boening and the snooker boys who have turned to pool, which he is supposed to have taken years to learn

And no I don't believe that Cruise and Newman could beat any top 9 ball player, but they learned enough to take a frame or two, and five weeks is all it took; and Paul Newman was never hollywood, never took a romantic lead role in his life, always played the maverick like Fast Eddie, Butch Cassidy, Hud, Hombre, Cool Hand Luke etc, etc.

I like watching 9 ball, and I never said it was easy, just easier than snooker that's all.
I hate anything to do with actors playing snooker or pool. I havent seen one yet that wasn't completely ****.

Diss American pool all you like but leave SVBs break out of it. It's as pure a strike as any shot played by anyone, ever. It really is amazing.

If this was thebilliardsforum circa 1936, there would be hundreds of people piling in on someone daring to suggest snooker is as difficult as billiards, and would be sneering triumphantly at the very suggestion a mere snooker player could ever be a better cueist than Walter lindrum. Show them ronnie o'sullivan in full flight and they would dismiss his game as a mere parlour trick. They KNEW. They couldn't be told.

They would see the issue solely through the prism of their own experience, and be completely ignorant of and indifferent to the viewpoint of others, even when their experience of other games was limited.

What it boils down to is pride and stupidity. People think they suck at snooker because the game is the hardest. They are wrong. They suck at snooker because they suck, period. Whether the game is snooker, billiards, russian pyramid, pool or whatever, is irrelevant. They are all equally difficult.
I'm going to support Mr Big as I don't particularly think he is trolling and is making some very good points - each game is equally difficult (or at least comparable) in different ways ...

briefly, snooker requires high potting skills, English billiards requires in-off skills (the half-ball losing hazard) together with positional skills to collect the balls for nursery cannons or top of the table play, Russian pyramid is a very tactical game (I think, I haven't seen much of it) and pool - there are lots of different pool games but generally are very pressured games simply because anyone can win a frame ...

take this example ... me vs Ronnie O'Sullivan playing a best of 9 frames ... at snooker, I stand zero chance, it'd be 5-0 to Ronnie ... however, at UK 8-ball pool, I can clear the table (sometimes) in a single visit so it would be a lot closer ... so which would Ronnie consider the harder game?
            Thanks. Happy new year mate.

Sorry but all he does is hit the shot very hard and launches his shoulder, head and body almost into orbit as does so. Nothing pure and no finesse about it at all; everything that's wrong with the pool players cue action is defined in the break shot.

You're seeing something that isn't really there.

And The Hustler is a brilliant film because it's not about pool, it's about the human condition and life, pool is merely the vehicle that Fast Eddie has to express his art but he abuses it by hustling for money and comes to that realisation in The Colour Of Money.
Newman was a great actor and made some superb films, The Hustler was one of them. Should have gotten his oscar for that.
