Thanks, major difference with this grip. I have uploaded one more this time doing the Red Lineup. https://bambuser.com/v/5193503
When you come up here I'm gonna load up this video and go through it with you.
For Leo: Les can't straighten his right arm. He is naturally right-handed but he cannot use his right arm/hand as the grip because it won't bend enough.
Have you ever played with a straight right arm Les?
No. When I post videos I should always explain myself before hand. I smashed my right elbow when I was 4 years of age. I only have about 20% movement so what you see is as straight as it goes. It never bothered me over the years but just lately it has. I have a Dr. appointment this week to have X-rays done to see if they can put in a Elbow Replacement. That might be my next post, just wonder if anyone on here as had this done.

Your severe bend in your right arm is causing you to have a very cramped set-up so anything they can do which allows you to straighten it just a bit should get you to what's called 'a nice compact set-up' and there are a lot of good players, including pros, who have compact techniques (Dott is one of them)

That's why I mentioned the arm because it's that where I'm getting the un-natural movement.
okay. lots of advice already so you can take this or leave it lol. cut down on the solo practice or stop it completely for the moment. Start playing some matches. Keep them fairly relaxed. The aim is to remember why you love the game and to stop worrying about winning/losing. If you have to then take a break from the game for a few weeks to refresh yourself. Whilst practising do not think about technique at all. think about putting and whee the while is going.
And speed up.
This is incredibly slow, mechanical and robotic for solo practise, plenty of time for negative thoughts to creep in. You do not let yourself enjoy the game one little bit.
Cannot say I have ever tried that but one thing I tried when I got back which most guys are totally against is looking back of CB instead of OB. It forces me to go through on the cue ball and doubt does not enter into the shot because you are not staring down the shot and putting doubt into it you are glued to the back of CB at front pause. There is no getting up to quick because after impact your eyes are glued on where the CB is going not the OB. I will throw the 15 reds up tomorrow and do another video but only looking at CB and everyone can see if they see a difference.
Hi les, been following your progress, well done for having the balls to put up a video. I played not too bad when I was younger but also had an accident back in 2001 where I broke my back and have neck trouble. now on long to medium length shots I cannot focus on the OB so have to play all these shots just focusing on the cue ball. I am going to stick up a video like yourself and hopefully get some positive direction.
As you know my mate and I have just set up a table, I love it, it's the first opportunity I have had to practice the way I want to. Can't wait to video a few pots to see how I look, probably gonna be a bit robotic also. After a few frames I get tightness in the neck and my focus sometimes gets affected, but I love the game and just ride this through knowing I can do better and just enjoy playing.
Anyway Les you have come along way from the first post I read earlier last year. Glad you got you pockets changed, our table pockets are a quarter in bigger than standard and it has upped my confidence.

You talk about enjoying the game there is nothing to enjoy about this frustrating game. TD and I played in a qualifier tournament today best of 3. I was finished in 45 minutes. Lost 2-0 had a high break of 7. How do I stop the downward slide other then give the game up which leaves me with a very expensive paper weight in my basement. My safety play was absoultly incredible which was my plan, let my opponent make the mistakes which he did. He left me piles of chances and I might as well have given him the cue ball in hand and said have fun. Now just for a few examples of some pots I had. I had a dead in pink in the side pocket and left it 2" short dead in, a red in the corner pocket and left it dead Center short. One last one a blue with red right beside it and I make the blue and leave the cue ball tight on the red all because I rolled the blue ball barley in, half turn less and I would have left it short.. Just very disappointing with all the hours I spend at my table. If I could find a perfectly round egg I ciuld probably use it for a cue all and not break it.

Les, don't give up, find someone nearer your level to play so you are left in amongst the balls as much as he is when you miss, if your playing someone better than you, play a plus 7 minus 7 handicap system and things will level themselves out. Every time you get beat your handicap goes up 7 and down 7 when you win. I play this with a mate and we have played this for 20 years. There was a time when I would give home 49 after beating him 7 in a row but then he would win a few back because of the start. The games are always close playing this way and remember to go for your shots and try and be positive. This year he was giving me a 14 start and I was shocked but that's the fairness of this system. Les you have a fantastic set up it would be a shame to see you quit. Chin up les keep at it. I think you have to say to yourself that your going to approach the game more positive even although you lose. I have had plenty of beating but still come away positive because of a few pots I took on that were successful.
Cheers Ricky
Sounds like a confidence problem to me Les, not really sure how to solve it, but I think hitting the ball either far too soft or far too hard points to a confidence issue.
I like that handicap system Ricky, I'll remember that one.
