You need decent technique, if your technique is sound it will get you through the nerves, if you doubt it ,you will do what you are doing, GET A CUE ACTION YOU CAN REPEAT TIME AFTER TIME. All the practice in the world won't matter if you are chopping and changing things all the time, pick something, anything that lets you cue reasonably straight ,then practice it for at least eighteen months ,even in matches, you are going to lose anyway so you may as well try your best too do things right, as coach Gav said switch from a results based to effort based game, but it's a very long road.
Lastly learn from your mistakes, I watched you do the colours and repeat the same shot over and over from green to brown coming back across the table when you could have just dropped the green in and been better on the brown, but no ,every shot the same, every result the same, not on the brown right, I don't understand this complete lack of thought.

Yep, I think the trust in it is the biggest part.

If any player thinks about his technique during a game or practice then they are well behind where they need to be. I've seen people looking like they are auditioning for strictly come dancing when they approach shots and yes you've got it they pi*ss their shot up as they didn't give the full concentration needed for the next shot.

Leo, he is struggling to make a two ball break, I don't think having a swing thought like ,through the ball, or something along those lines is going to make the slightest bit of difference, Les doesn't have a game to speak of, he doesn't have a cue action he can repeat, he can't go backwards in his game , unless he gives up, and no one wants that to happen .

No worries mate, I tend to jump onto threads and normally give an answer to the poster above rather then the actual thread.

I have my own weekly test now.... One thing it will do is push me. Played with Floyd today for a few hours ran some mid 20's and a couple mid 30 breaks. He had me really hitting it. Forget the little jabby steer shots as I call them. Hit it I kept telling myself. No more rolling it.

Well done Les you will get there in the end mate. I think what Tedisbill has done with is weekly regime for you is a great idea, this will give you the determination to compete each task thus giving you a sense of acheievement after completion and maybe give you that confidence you darely lack. Hopefully that particular thread won't die out and this time next year you could be different player entirely.

well if your making thirty odd breaks against a pro, the colours should be done with your eyes shut.

Yes I agree. When I play with Floyd he will not keep score its all about making balls. His high break yesterday was 87. What a pure stroke. We finished the day off with him showing me how to put the cue ball by the top corner pocket, blue on its spot make the blue and screw the cue ball back up the table in the top pocket. He just fills me with confidence.

Can you play him regularly Les?, or even pay him if you have to, as he sounds the man for you, if he is getting you cueing better and you feel great in your game when playing with him, kidnap him and chain him to your table, is he near you or is it a bit of a trek to see each other.
Just out of curiosity, what are the tables like in the new club.

Floyd is not real close but we do get some games in. He is painting a house for me starting in a couple weeks so then I will get a few more in with him. As for the tables very nice. Eight brand new Shenders with Hainsworth Smart. Not as fast as mine with the heaters and 6811 Tournament but as for pocket size they are almost identical to mine. Nice to know my table is just about as good as it gets.
