I dont think it matters too much long as your not sliding against the nap aggressively, most players do it very gently anyway. Luckily my cloth is already really beaten up so not too big of a deal
REFRESHER Hi guys I decided today to start a refresher of all chalkenges to see how I am doing.
Challenge #1
Cleared the colours on second attempt. Still need work on brown to blue.
Challenge #2
Cleared 4 reds with pinks and blacks on third attempt. had problems stunning off cushion while making a black. Problems making the black.
Challenge #3
Cleared 4 reds with pinks and blacks on second attempt. Good tight positional play.
Challenge #4
After five attempts my best was 13 blacks off the spot. Still need more work on this challenge.
Challenge #5
My best with this challenge was one miss until today. After three attempts i cleared all 15 reds. I noticed how much better my thinking was during the clearance compared to previous attempts during the challenge.
Challenge #6
My best is still 5 blues (30) today I made 4 blues (24)
Tomorrow I hope to find time to continue on with my refresher.
How is everyone else doing?

iv'e been practicing 6 reds in a bunch and breaking them up and trying to clear them.
so far i have been able to pot the 6 reds a few times, but haven't been able to clear the table, best iv'e had is 5 reds with blacks one with pink and the yellow.
i need to pay more attention to positional play especially once i get down to the last 2, to leave a better angle on the last colour to get good on the Yellow.
i've also do a mini linupe 6 reds with blacks 48 break, plus a few other routines other than whats in this challenge

I have stayed pretty true to the challenges. I was having a lot of trouble making shots in the side so I have added a 15 red practice 7 reds both sides if the blue and I have to pot all 15 reds in side pockets. It has really helped me during matches. A good friend of mine gave me what he calls a test to see your improvement. Setup a standard line up potting reds with colours. Then when you miss you have cue ball in hand but you take a red off the table same goes if you miss a colour a red comes off and CB in hand, when you get down to the colours if you miss one it comes off and you have CB in hand. Also if you happen to disturb a few balls you leave them but once you miss and have CB in hand you can put the balls that where disturbed back. It's actually fun and my best is 77.

i'm not sure about the routine you described. so when you miss you just take that ball off the table and start again with ball in hand.
what is that teaching you ?
it seems rather than resetting the shot and trying to get it , you are just ignoring the miss and moving on to another ball by placing the cueball where you want.
i don't see that as a challenge, if i miss i would either reset the shot and play it again , or rest the whole routine again

Maybe it is pointless. I thought it was interesting as everytime you miss you take a red off which takes a possible 8 points away. The more you miss the lower your score will be. It is not what he called as a routine but more a test to see how you are improving.

But the whole idea of a line is not to count your break but to practice your cueing and clear the lot up. Your way means you can get to the colours without even potting a red!
Played my last tourney of the season today. Ended up with a tough draw, played same guy three months ago and he beat me 4 straight in about n hour which included a 126. But different story today I kept him under control with a max break of 48 and I managed to win one game. Safety game was great but still not making big enough breaks as my high break was 13, blue and pink. I figure in our tournaments if I can run 30's I have a chance so I have a long way to go. No operation in sight so I am on Naproxen and getting ready for golf season. The hotter it gets the better the shoulders feel. Doc says no golf but if he can't get me in then I am playing. First big one May 19 Qualifier for the Ontario Match Play Championship.

Sounds like it's good that the tournament season is over Les, if players are capable of getting century breaks you are well out your depth. At least now you got time for serious practice to try to progress your game and try to improve your break building. It's ok saying your safety is good but that's just trying to stop your opponent scoring, you need to be able to step in and score points off your safety or it's no use.
