So much easier to learn the skills on your own then take that to your game.
Yes I was but now he is gone south for the winter. I will stick with the solo match practice and get a few games against my son.

As for friends that play I have a few but they are not very close and if I am lucky I might get a few games in one day in a month. I like to get up to TD but he is two hours away. I am going to have to concentrate on playing matches against myself and now my youngest son is moving into the new home I built him and his mom. He has two tables setup and he is only five minutes away so we will make it a weekly match. This should help.
yeah, agree . It's a big country. to travel two hours every day to get the chance to play in a club, is not easy.
anyway, glad u have ur son to play against him.
I saw the photo's . that Broom looks realy great.
      Thanks for the replay.

Yea two rooms that are fit for the best players in the world and I am not one of them....LOL Now I have a serious question for everyone. Many have quoted on here "Except your level and enjoy the game" now how do you do that? As I have said many times on here I never do anything for fun I always want to be the best. Tonight I contemplated whether I should even go down to practice because all I do is get frustrated. After a half hour I put my cue away Brushed, Blocked and Ironed my table and walked away. I have played one best of 5 match where I lost 3-0 to TD in the past month, three games.

Is it Terry you been having the regular game with on a Tuesday night, you are losing me with when you get chance to play and not play. You seem to have a stubborn streak that is going to limit your learning. It's obvious doing it your considered way will probably help but very slowly.

A good idea Les would be to read the entire thread again and take in the good advice that has been given along the way by good players that you have overlooked. Forget about saying it will confuse you even more, we are all adults with fully grown brains and should be able to sort the wheat from the chaff that's going to help improve your game.

What did you do tonight for half an hour that made you put your cue away? Your motto is practice to improve not waste time. Before getting good at this game you have to have fun to be able to learn all the shots, they are not gonna appear in your game playing a tough frame against yourself.

Sorry if that isn't what you want to hear Les. If you prefer a wooly answer get your pockets widened again.

As for games I drew Terry in our last tournament. I haven't been up to Terry's to play in a couple months. My Tuesday games with a friend has ended. He has gone South for the winter. Tonight I should not even attempted to practice. Basically sick of the game or should I say sick of tormenting myself. I just want to enjoy the game with others but there are no others.

No just enjoying a few games instead of frustrating myself night after night by myself.

Join the rest of us Les, players like myself, pottr, tedisbill, inevermissblue, j6uk, tomwalker and many more on here would have spent hours and hours working on solo practice to increase our skill levels. If it's good enough for pro's it's good enough for us. The two main go to routines are the full line up and T line up, these are still pretty much the standard ones the pro's use. Play these and you get better and better, start seeing angles that are all about helping potting and position. Why in such a rush to play tournaments, might give you little experience but won't help your game if anything will carry on making it worse with nerves and psychology of the game.

What did you do tonight for 1/2 hour that made you pack up so quick. You hardly had chance to get cue out and get the balls on the table.

                      Thanks for clarification.
I have'nt seen many people with your willingness to improve in this game . i think you should be proud of yourself .

                      • Just do the 51 clearance drill. That's all you need to gauge yourself. Also its nowhere near as laborious as the lineups, giving you clear and instant feedback! It can be found on pottr's page.
It is a very good drill in my opinion. I do it every chance I get. Just to check I'm still in tune.
                        Cheap and Cheerful! 😄

I was just about to ask the same question. I cannot remember ever hearing about the 51 Routine. Can someone give me some insight into this routine.

                            • At a guess I think it might be three reds and the colours Les, that would be 51. My old playing partner ,that's all he practiced, threw three reds on the table in the open ,cleared it, its the only thing I saw him do practice wise.

                              • It is the one routine you should not be doing Les.
