Firstly if you are struggling to clear the colours once in twenty attempts you are not ready to move on to something else IMO , better to get this at a minimum of one in three preferably two in three something like that, it should be something you expect to do, not hope to do. If you move on I feel you will get swamped with things to do and not master any of them. Just my thoughts.
As for where to play the green from, go to your table place the White ball on it with your hand ,exactly where you would like it to be to play the green to make it easy to get on the brown(pot the green as many times as you want getting on the brown untill you are happy you are comfortable with it and are getting nicely on the brown) look at where the cue ball starting position is, now play for that spot off the yellow, job done.
