  • Depends Les. Snooker is just all about consistency. Maybe at the moment you can do 1 in 15. So if you can do 1 in 13 next week, your personally have improved which is what you're after.

Why not try them a few times, see how many attempts it takes you, and then try and improve on that each week.

It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

That previous post was meant to say GL with this weeks challenge but the predictive text on my phone likes making a fool of me on a regular basis

              • Hi les . Forgive me if I am wrong here but did you not say earlier that in previous tourneys that you struggle to pot a single ball etc etc . This tourney you were winning by the time you were on the colours and the frame you were behind wasn't by much and you were down to the colours .

To me this sounds like you are already making a big improvement . How did you play before all the reds were gone ?

                Keep it up mate

Your mission this week, is to clear 4 reds with either pink or black. The reds have been moved this week into new positions. The two reds either side of the pink will make this exercise slightly trickier to complete.

I have attached a picture showing the starting positions. You may start with the cue ball wherever you like.

                    Good luck everybody!

Phew done it. Was this tougher or easier than the 4 reds in a line?? Dunno, more space around the colours but need more precise play positionally as the reds are further apart.
Bit rusty this week too not pkayed since Monday dont know why might be something to do with the wife wanting me to strip.........wallpaper ....doh!

I played very well, need to run more balls when I get a chance. My long potting was exceptional and safety play was very good.

Well done! I'd say this weeks challenge is tougher because it requires slightly better position with the white. Think this is a good step because as I've said, we definitely don't want to run before we can walk. Same amount of pots needed this week, but with better control.

                        • I don't want to seem like I'm getting on folks backs but I feel there is a completely wrong attitude to these exercises. It shouldn't be phew I've done it, that's not the point at all, it's about mastering them. Everyone seems to be over the moon because they have completed it, and that's fair enough, but how many goes? Is it once an hour, or every twenty goes, that's about as good as not doing it ,as at best you have a five percent chance of doing it, put that in a match situation and that goes down to nearly zero, they have to be done until you are upset with yourself if you don't clear them, then in a pressure situation because you have done them hundreds if not thousands of times you have a high chance of doing it, not great I've done it what's next , to me that's pointless.
I kind of knew this would happen, no one has mentioned doing the colours since the first week, and I bet you no one does last weeks either now there is a new challenge, you have to do them all, all the time, it's called practicing, and putting some work in.
There again if the point is just to do them just ignore all that nonsense

                          • Yeah, I think you're correct itsnot, although the point of the thread kind of was to complete the challenge.

Les seemed to have quite a problem focusing his mind and actually doing some meaningful practice. That's why I thought I'd just set him these little challenges and get him to pot balls until he manages to complete them.

As I said before, snooker is about consistency. It's about being able to hit every single ball perfectly. These exercises at the moment, only require 6 pots the first week, then 8 in week two, and now 8 pots again in week three. Whislt I think it's important to be relentless with practice, it's also important not to frustrate yourself and put yourself off, making you want to throw your cue up the wall.

Once we're up to a challenge with 8 reds on the table, that will require 16 shots to be hit correctly. Which is just consistency. Les just wouldn't manage that at the moment, but hopefully in a few months he will.

Last weeks challenge took Les a few days to get the hang of, so that was good, he was practicing with a purpose each day. If people are coming on and completing it relatively easily, then they need some harder challenges and should check this thread out again in a couple of months.

                            • The challenges are great Ted, and they are giving some structure to practice, which is probably more important, it's ignoring the other challenges and just doing this weeks, just seems pointless to me, I have read people say don't leave the room untill you have cleared the colours, doesn't matter what you have been doing this must be completed, Infact i do it myself, thanks to Byrom, do you think Les did it? Or did he complete the challenge as quick as he could so he could get on here to tell us( sorry Les , not just you. ) that to me is pointless, why have we not had a video of folk doing both of the exercises one after the other, or two or three colour clearances in a row,,not in a loop just in a row, and the four reds a couple of times round, has anyone even thought about doing this?just to show they have some type of mastery of them. Is it maybe because it takes them so many times to do it they can't be bothered or they just cant do it, if any of them are the case they have learned nothing really have they. I will not comment on this again as I feel like a spoilsport , so I will leave yous to it and wish everyone doing them all the best.

                              • You're not being a spoilsport mate, just highlighting the importance of practice.

I really don't think people are going to manage several clearances on the bounce though. Very hard. Or manage to complete one exercise followed by the other straight after.

As I say though, that will effectively just be week 49 challenge if you know what I mean. The only reason you can complete the line up, is because you can pot 36 balls without missing. So you can either do a full line up, or be at a standard where you're capable of doing the week two challenge 5 times in a row without missing.
