  • yes we are! every player wants the max..
plus a good players training with screw back will involve the long blue and screwing back into the opposite corner, not tiddle winking around the heart attack

    • your the type of fellow that will always win, even if i play you a best of five and you only pot three balls.
i mean to judge and i maybe wrong

in this scenario, screwing back dead straight off the first free ball black and then potting the second black is ideal ...

      I win !

I was thinking about going to the Star Academy in Sheffield as they offer a pretty good deal for overseas players, something like around 50GBP per day including accommodation and all day practice but buy your own food. They will also pick up players from the airport and have transportation between accommodations and Academy.

I've done this twice at the Southwest Academy and you get a lot of practice, sometimes with good players
yep , i know the guys that run the Academy, it would be nice to see you Terry, i usually go to the Academy every Wednesday for half a day

I was just reading this post to my wife. She was not very impressed....LOL I guess I will have to stick to the Edwards Academy. No resident pros here. Just lonely Les trying to go through the challenges.

Have you had a chance to run some blacks yet? I have been going at it all wrong and will be working on it Saturday. Going to watch to big matches at a local invitational tomorrow one with Floyd and Alian Robidou and one with Cliff Thorburn and our present a Canadian Champion.

                        • Yes Les you were doing the black routine wrong At your "level" like a couple of us suggested in previous posts. Unfortunately the better players on this thread want you a higher level before you have mastered the basics.

                          • For feck sake guys. Are we supposed to use the cushions or not on the black routine. Someone decide

                            • Avoid landing too straight. When you land straight either screw back of the cushion to get a bit of angle or force angle. When you just low off straight stun run for a high black instead of just rolling over on the other side for another roll. Hovewer if you prefer to just do little straight screws than do it just when you get bact to your car to drive back and post your score do not use any gears above second. m

                              • yeah our lad, you can only go forwards and that aint gonna help unless you've got a mad one in the center. otherwise is straight back maybe with some side, and no one likes that one when your trying to win a frame in one visit
Exactly the point of the whole routine...

why is that funny? I think being able to screw back perfectly accurately is a very important skill in cue sports - it demonstrates that you've aimed correctly and delivered the cue very accurately ... we're not trying to hit a 147 here, we're practicing potting blacks keeping good position ...
For a player at Les' level, I think it would be an achievement for him to be able to simply screw back and continue... But... and there is a but... A decent cueist (like the one in that PJ video) can simply fall over and keep knocking them in... you're not really gaining any training benefit... Bit like signing up for a gym membership and using the steam room and the sauna only...

I think J6's approach errs on the side of getting you into a solid mindset for when you're practicing... Not exactly a bad thing.

For feck sake guys. Are we supposed to use the cushions or not on the black routine. Someone decide
Like I said earlier... you can split the routine into 3 sections if you like:
with cushions only, without and all inclusive.

Even at Les' level though, I see no reason he couldn't have a bash at all 3 and have 3 personal bests
