You got that right. I found out very quickly some balls up in the middle do not go to the corners until you get the four corners cleared out of the way. Great challenge for working around the table.

    • i start by potting the two middle balls, either side of the blue, this clears a path to either go up or down the table. i then (depending which side of the table i'm on) pot one of the side balls to the corner.

i didn't have enough time, but i did find sort of a system which worked for me, i just need to tighten up on the positional side and i will get this exercise cracked, next time i have a solo practice session i will see if i can clear it.

Exactly! It's one of those exercises that looks deceptively easy.

As for the rest shot that I didn't take on, I agree with everyone's analysis. My aversion to using the rest got the better of me.

tedisbill: Your advice to work out the problem balls is extremely useful. I kind of know it in the back of my head, but it really helps to have someone say it "out loud". I will make this my focus next time I try the exercise.

        • this exercise is good for break building, just as in a proper frame you have to work out the balls that are the problem balls and try and get them out of the way as soon as possible. often you get a red or two blocking the path for the back to a pocket. you have to find a way to get onto these reds to open it all up, otherwise the break will end.

Yes. I agree alabadi. It's deceptively simple but quite a hard exercise to complete. The best I've managed is completing in two attempts. I have failed many times just 3 or 4 balls in.

So close. You're white ball control was a lot better in the second half of that near clearance. Good stuff.

I tried the three at a time top to bottom, just to stop the boredom of the other one, I couldn't do it, I feel I should do it as it doesn't seem that hard, will give it a better go during the week.
