I am going to post all five challenges shortly which I have designed in photo shop so guys can print them out and keep them in a binder. Ted I am thinking maybe after this week we should maybe do a review where we spend a week completing the first five challenges before we move on.
It's 2015 Les it's easier to just store them on our phones

It's great that Ted is helping everyone with these routines but as he's said himself same or similar are on the Ding app. There is a good structure within the app to help players like yourself Les. Three levels of learning, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Be easy enough to work through the app at your own pace rather than just picking the odd routine out.

Okay thats enough of that. I am a perfectionist thus the reason for the binder and keeping notes. Not that I am not hi tech. I owned a computer store for five years and can rip a computer apart and put it back together and look how cute my little pictures are all done in Photo Shop. I will be interested to see how everyone makes out on this one. I just ran 5 reds with 5 blues and missed a perfect red to get back up for another blue. The rest where pin point perfect. So my best as of right now is 30. First learning curve if you make a red on a angle and screw off the cushion it is amazing how the cushion kills the spin. Now the good players are probably using some side with it.

You're right to be honest Mark. This thread was originally started to give Les a bit of a kick because he just didn't seem to be able to get his head down and do some constructive practice.

Surely now you could set yourself some targets Les and just keep us updated as to what you're getting up to if that's what floats your boat!

It's up to you Ted but if you want to continue I am game. I realize there are piles of routines out there but I find this like a little competition with some of the other average players. I know what would happen for example. I went down for an hour to try the new challenge and after a half hour I was getting no where but I was learning how the cue ball reacted and how the shot had to be played. It was not long after that I ran five reds with five blues. If it was just me I probably would have given up and started trying something else but with your challenges I know I have to report back with my out come.

                  • les the average players on here are much better than you now, they've all overtaken you. all this fiddling about your doing is distracting and anal. toss your binder in the bin stop posting for at lease two days and get on the table proper
get on the black and target 30, even if you gotta get your little cue out

                    • well the reds with blues have given me a headache, i've only managed it twice a round the third time landed too high on the blue so could only pot the blue and had not much chance of getting anywhere good on the next red.

what i am finding is i'm landing straight on the blue more times than i want to remember. the margin is so small where being ideal is a couple of inches high to have a 3/4 blue.

this really pi**** me off because its one extra roll that was the difference. i spent an hour until i gave up. i'll give it another goo in a couple of days and see if i can better my efforts

If you're a bit too high just bounce on and off the black cushion.

that's right , however that shot needs very good control, travelling 6 foot up the table and then coming back 3 -4 foot, and trying to not induce unwanted side at the same time. i'd rather have the cue ball travel a couple of feet, which is easier to control.

this is what i am aiming for, obviously sometimes i will hit it slightly harder, put unintentional side or pot it thinner into the pocket than i planned and land higher than ideal. which i have and played the shot you mentioned.

i just found when that happened it was difficult to get back in the ideal position, and then it started to snowball from there.

the key to this for me is to learn how to get the right angle each time and therefor making the shots a lot easier.

J6 I really don't think so. I think you do this just to push to be better or at least that's what I get from you. There is no negativity left in me and I am not about to let you in to my mind. Alabadi just ran 4 and I ran 5. I played one game against myself tonight and ran five reds with five blacks. Really getting the feel now. My game is coming together just in time for my new case which arrives this week from The Snooker Warrior.

please don't give up tedisbill - I think your challenges are spot-on and Les (and others) are clearly enjoying them and looking forward to next Sunday's one ... without naming names, there's also clearly a lot of nay-sayers who are saying they are too easy or Les should be doing this or that but that's simply the snooker keyboard warriors ...

until such time as there is an official syllabus for snooker students, you are the best we have so keep up the good work ... in comparison, English Billiards does offer a syllabus via the great website www.EnglishBilliards.org but I'm not aware of a snooker equivalent ... the only training I know in snooker is for coaches (not students) and cynics might say all that that entails is the would-be coach pays his/her money and gets accredited as a coach ...

I might be wrong ... is there an official course for snooker students and if not, why not? I would imagine it should be the responsibility of the IBSF ... remember that World Snooker, the WPBSA, is specifically a club for professional players so has no responsibilities for the amateur game or students wishing to improve ...
