There must be some players like yourself that are serious about the game to volunteer to maintain the tables. Maybe it should be the clubs responsibility but if they are not doing it the tables are just gonna get worse. I'm doing the tables at the club I use twice a week and they are so much better, nobody got the excuse now of blaming a slow table. Most players got a list of excuses but at least slow table not one of them now lol

Ah, easy for you but both Les and I live about 2hrs away and outside of the 2 owners and the manager there just aren't any players interested enough. I did suggest getting 1 or 2 college students from across the street to do it for free table time but I doubt anyone has tried that on.

Not that easy for me Terry, I don't live near a snooker club and it's an hours walk away to the club I use. Just think it's worth putting myself out to maintain the tables for a better playing experience for myself and fellow members. I was fed up of everyone moaning about tables and not prepared to do anything. With yourself and Les both having your own tables I suppose you got less need to visit the club unless you got a tournament on.

Its unfortunate that the owners dont want to
put the effort in to have their employees
properly maintain the tables.
I dont know how much work is involved per table
as I dont even know what 'block' involves altho
I have seen the tables being brushed and ironed
during tournaments on WS.
Just FYI I noticed on Kijiji there is a Riley
table for sale in case anyone you know is
looking. Its in Kingston.

Not that easy for me Terry, I don't live near a snooker club and it's an hours walk away to the club I use. Just think it's worth putting myself out to maintain the tables for a better playing experience for myself and fellow members. So you're only 3 or 4 miles away and if you drove it would be less than 10 minutes and by bus maybe 20 minutes. Both Les and I would have to drive across Toronto during rush hours so it would be at least 3hrs each way.

Sounds like they have the same mentality as Riley's clubs in the UK, snooker not the main priority so conditions suffer. When this happens you only attract the sort of players going out for a bit of fun and not the more serious player that wants good conditions. So management not willing to put the time in to maintain tables. Sad state of affairs for snooker.

i don't know what is like in canada but in the uk the better players/snookerheads corral around the social members clubs to get the better playing conditions

Just came away from my club and I did all 4 tables, they looked mint when I'd finished. It's a shame to play on them lol.

Just checked the forum and I am out of the loop as I have not been getting email notifications. As Terry said we are miles from civilization. The only time either one of us get to the club is for tournaments. I had a friend over yesterday to play which I could never beat a year ago and I took him 4 straight. He loves to play at my place because his old Brunswick table is so slow with cushions that are dead. He is a retired gentleman that runs a side line billiard business and cannot understand how come mine is so much faster. I explained to him yesterday I brush & bllock my table after every use and iron about every third day plus it is heated. He has Strachan 6811 Club on his table. Reminds me of the old days when we use to have those cut out felt animals that we would stick on the felt board. Very very slow. I think The Corner Bank could be in real trouble if they change their cloths and go to the 6811 Club cloth they already have cut for the tables. Says nothing about great control or fast.

I know what you mean, mine looks like that every night when I am done. The Corner Bank now have a guy that is doing the tables for free table time but I had to show him which way to brush the table so you can imagine the care he is taking. I even block my rails as I hate any marks on them. Nothing like a player that rubs his hand all over the rails against the nap or drops his bridge hand on the table at the black spot and runs it up past the pink for his shot. They have know idea how hard it is to get those hand prints out after they leave. I normally tell them the minute I see them do it so they don't do it again.....LOL call me picky, fussy whatever you want.

I agree with that running the hand against the nap. When a student does that on my table I quickly brief him and not very surprisingly most of them didn't even know there was a nap!

I like the guys that come in and right off the bat they say what an amazing table and then continue to rub there hand on the cloth and say is this ever smooth as they rub against the nap and make a mess before we even start. Probably why I can't get anyone to come back to play as I give it to them immediately....

LOL Probably take you over to the club to play.... no I would just suck it up and work on the table after we finished. I really never thought about this till now but most players do slide there bridge hand but I don't and why because my bridge arm does not move locked in its funny position so I drop down right on the shot.

Yes you are 100% correct, just one more thing I cannot do. I have to drop directly down on the shot. But I can say my game is improving in leaps n bounds since you started my challenge.
