  • I am not sure what to say at this point. I am getting pulled in every direction. Floyd was here and again I played very well taking him Dow to the colours in two out of three games but that was playing very very safe unless I had a 75% shot. The third game he missed and left me in the balls and I missed my first red which was a sitting duct but instead of hitting I rolled it and missed it. He ran 60 something. I made a lot of good pots. He says my big thing is confidence and believing I can pot balls. He says there is nothing wrong with my game but believing in myself. He said he cannot understand why Cliff has not get more into the mental side of the game.

that's the worst thing about forums... everyone is an expert.

X person will swear by a routine while Y person will swear by a totally different routine and Z person will disagree with X and Y. Leaving you totally baffled and probably a worse player than you were originally as you've suddenly got a load of magic in your head.

The only thing to do is find a good coach or a better player that YOU believe in and respect - Terry D seems an obvious choice - and stick with that persons advice. Whether you have to take a few steps back in the short term to take a hundred forward in the long term.

Even worse is with all this magic in your head you stop enjoying having a knock as you're over thinking every shot, every movement etc... its a game, something to enjoy and love. Not something that makes you frustrated. Thats what wives and jobs are for

Ask yourself this.... There's been 1600 posts in this thread... are you honestly a better player (or believe you're a better player) than when post #1 happened?

        • Les isn't going to reach the standard he wants with that bridge hand no matter how much advice he gets.

He should forget this thread as its a waste of time and just enjoy playing on his own table whenever he wants as that is living the dream for the majority of us :snooker:

Said it before on here a few times that sometimes you just have to accept the level you're at, if you improve great if not just carry on enjoying the game.

                a hearty +1

once you accept that, you return to playing for the love and enjoyment. Not technical competence.

                • I'm certainly not a coach but I thought this was a snooker forum so was happy to try and help on this thread. No idea what my handicap is as only been playing 4 years and my goal was to get a game century, I got that 6 months ago so I'm doing ok. Class myself as average because I am happy knocking regular 50s.

I wish I'd got a table at home, had a coach like Terry to call on and play with ex pro's and a world champion but I'm not that lucky. 95% of the time I'm down the club doing routines over and over again so I get confidence in my cue action. We are all adults and got our own minds, I've learned from many posts on here but I agree you got to take out the bits that can help your game and not worry about most things that can confuse the game even more.

Don't think much point in me contributing anymore but good luck getting to the level you want Les.

                  • A good post by Markz. A mature adult who tries to use this forum for the good. It's a pity there are a few immature morons on here who use this forum to bully people. Sorry if that was a little off topic but had to be said.
I will also not comment on this thread anymore.

Good luck Les and try to filter out the rubbish what most will say and use the good stuff to your advantage.

                    All the best

Well let's start with this quote first. First off I agree you can become mind boggled by all the information coming from everyone. Start with this routine then I go down the next night trying a different one and so and so on. Now when Ted started this thread I was in rough shape. We started with the colour clearance and I was totally lost but with videos I sent to be viewed and and some help are started to clear the colours. Then we went onto the four reds between pink n black. This was amazing as I use to do this routine I made up by clearing one red with black then put up two reds and clear with blacks and if I missed I would start over. My best was three. With in two days or possibly sooner I was clearing all four reds with blacks or pinks 75% of the time. It's like Teds routines gave me a goal every time I went down to my table so I think this thread has helped me and I thank Ted for starting it and I hope it continues.

Cheers Bolton, I remember chatting to you on a thread about using 5 reds between black ball and cushion. Was nice to share views about snooker. No idea what you mean about multiple accounts. I'm here for the snooker, probably once a month a snooker forum breaks out then disappears again under all the other things.

Well you got half your post right. I am leaving most players dreams. Floyd was here today and said my table is probably one of the best tables around and also said one of the tighter tables he has played on. He said much tighter then the Corner Bank where we play which are brand new Shenders. Now as for my bridge hand I will not give up. I was told the same thing when it came to playing golf. The pro told my parents with that arm just let him enjoy the game. 10 years later I was playing professional golf and now 30 years later I still carry a 1.8 handicap.

j6 you are always questioning my golfing ability....LOL Well like I said just above I am still carrying a handicap of 1.8 at 51 years of age.

LOL Yes Leo you have said that a few times but I am not ready to accept the level I am at. Not right now.

i really am enjoying the game as Floyd said today you look like you are just having fun and you are playing good snooker. He said when I can take that relaxed game to the tournaments you will start to pot balls and win.
