I think it's easy. The ones who tell you how it is even though it might sound harsh as opposed to the ones who sugar coat everything and regurgitate the same old advice and routines.

It's quite disrespectful to the people who have dedicated years and the thousands of hours needed to reach a decent standard.

    • You have your own table Les, now just get on it and learn to pot balls before you enter any more tournaments.
Eye on the object ball is the way to play snooker, the opposite to golf; do this and you will no doubt improve, forget routines and apps, they are for players who can already pot but wish to improve their positional play, you haven't learned to pot yet, you might think you have, but easy straight ball practise gives you false hope and gets you nowhere in normal play where angles are mandatory.

You absolutely must learn your angles and use them to move the cue ball around; I wish you could see my mate Rodney play, he holds the cue like you would a pencil, between forefinger and thumb, square stance, elbow sticking well out, and rolls balls around with minimum backswing, uses side a lot for positional play and was a century break player in his youth, but is mullered when he's on a straight one as he has very little cue power. He's old now and his eyes have gone but he still makes the occasional 50+ proving there are many different ways to play this game, find one that suits but first learn to pot balls.

Eye on the object ball, forget everything else but this and start again.

Thanks Vmax. I think what I might do is set up my cam throw the balls on the table and take one video of me just potting balls and let the good players tell me where I am at. Do you think that sounds reasonable.

That's not a problem Tim Hortons is only a stone throw from the job site I am on....LOL Cold and windy here today. Would rather be home potting balls or at least trying to pot balls.

Why would you want a good player on a forum to work with you one on one by email when you have Terry, Floyd and Cliff as your mentors already? I'm sorry for giving advice now as I've always said I'm just an average player, happy I reached my goal of making a century in a game. I can walk away knowing I achieved what I set out to do.

                  • Les,

There is no quick route to becoming a good player. It's hours spent on the table doing routines, session after session. You have had some good advice on here so stick to the basics and work on it time after time.

All three are at least an hour n half to two hours away. I just don't have the time to go that distance. Nic Barrow wanted to work with me through Skype. But that gets costly and it does not work very well with time difference.

As for my shoulder I had an injection last Wednesday with a steroid and anti-inflammatory and feel like a million dollars even with this damp cool weather. As far as work goes I have one house on the go that is framed up and ready for electrical rough in so no heat yet but out of the wind. I am building this home for my Ex Wife and youngest son which is the one that plays Snooker with me. Wait till I post photos of his billiard room. Going to be a 4-1/2x9 Pool Table and a 6x12 Snooker table with lost of room around all sides. Pouring concrete next week in the basement. Running conduit to both tables in the concrete so we can heat the snooker table and light them both up.
