  • I thought I would give you guys a little update, I played in our tournament yesterday loosing my first match but instead of my usual 3-0 it was 3-2 and the kicker I was up two. I came out with a very positive outlet as I potted a lot of very good solid shots. Terry was playing right beside me and he commented after the match that I looked like a different person from our last tournament. I have been working hard on the line up and actually cleared 13 reds getting a real bad kick on my 13th red leaving the cue ball dead Center of the table with no shot at a colour. Next is a total clearance if the reds then a total clearance. I will get there.

          • Les,

I am glad you listened and the line up is working out so well for you. It works your whole game and to me is the best practice routine to do.

              What is going wrong.
I went down stairs tonight to practice. I started with running the CB up and down the spots. I hit the tip of my cue about 95% of the time. Then I scattered the balls with colours on the spots and after a half hour 15 was my high. Then I thought I would run the colours and after 15 attempts I never got by the brown ball. I put everything away before I lost my temper and did something I would regret. Could be just the work load I have on my shoulders but I have no concentration, patience or confidence. I played Terry in the first round of our tournament on the weekend. I had a high break of 9 and I am not sure if I even made a colour. I remember making a brown and cue ball in the side at the same time. All three games where over before the colours. I think I have been told on here maybe this game is not for me and I am starting to think that way.

Try having your cue arm vertical at address as you may have a greater freedom of movement and sense of control.
                  Most pros are vertical.
(It would mean holding the cue NOT on the end of the butt which will feel very different)

Add a bit more weight onto your left elbow to anchor you down on the shot more.
Widening the left foot a couple of inches may make that easier.
This anchored elbow would help eliminate the slight head lift you have on delivery.

Overall, a nice tempo, set up position, pre shot routine and backswing.

Tournaments not for you Les not till your confident in the basics of the game. No point running before you can walk. What did you expect from playing Terry in match play? Score line was obvious, there is a massive difference in knowledge and skill level.

No reason to give up the game you love, just accept your current level and work on improving it slowly as you seem to find it difficult to learn.

Any helpful advice for Les, Nic? Seems to take 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Needs help from a coach.

So difficult to comment without seeing a video of how you play.
It could either be technique, temperament, or practice approach/attitude.
If you have iphone or ipad you could download the free app I have made this year which has a huge amount of free tips on how to manage your practice.
                        https://itunes.apple.com/app/id964053106&mt=8

If you were getting angry, it is a sure sign you were practicing something too advanced - break it down to clearing up from the brown, then from the yellow, then from 2 reds left etc etc.
3 chances on each, and if you fail you go back a step....

Cheers for your input Nic. This thread was started in January by a member called tedisbill. Was setting basic routines up to try and improve Les and other players games. If you look through some early posts if you got time you will see plenty of videos.

Thanks Nic, I have bought your how to break a 100, I have bought your Hypnosis CD, I have bought your training ball and I have downloaded your new app from I tunes. I also have Dings App, JP Nolan, Jimmy White App and a bunch more. I go to see Terry Davidson for coaching when I get a chance and also Cliff Thorburn. This has all been over the past three years. Now I am running high breaks of nine.

Les if i had my own snooker room there would be snooker ball shaped holes in the wall, there are good days and bad days and on the bad just pack up and do something else, it's amazing how many times I've been terrible, left it for a few days and next time i played i struck the ball better than ever.
You enjoy the game so put that first and don't be so hard on yourself, i love reading your snooker journey on here so don't wait so long until the next update

LOL my joinery..... It is one hell of a frustrating journey. I try not to post much as you guys must be sick of the hearing the Les Edwards problems... Floyd told me today to just enjoy the game. I don't enjoy missing pot after pot. I enjoy standing out 190 yards away on a par 5 hitting a 5 iron tight and making eagle or ripping that 280 yard tee ball down the middle. I played a very nice screw shot against Terry on the weekend...I jumped the cue ball over the red and right in the pocket. I felt like swiping the balls with my cue and walking out but I am the Treasure of our association and very involved in this frustrating game.
