  • My thread is going crazy without me...LOL Enjoying the game I think is key as everyone has told me. That is my new goal. Have fun and things will happen. I have been so busy finishing a new custom home that I have not picked up a cue in over a week. Check out the billiards room in this home I just finished for my youngest son and my Ex.

That's great improvement ted, think you hit the nail on the head, need to study the game and work out the reasons why you are not very good. If you do this you learn new things all the time that make you a better player.

I have often heard coaches say that to improve from 30,40 & 50 breaks can only be achieved by going to a coach. Evidently this is never true.
Just enjoy the game and let your own initiative take hold.
          Wauw !!
No coaching and 147's in matches ?
I wish i could do that . you are talented imo. very nice.
making tons and 147's in matches is not easy .
          My compliment .

Not really off topic Ramon, just players giving their experience on how they progressed in the game.

well, I was referring to my own post, mark. Not other members.

                        • One of the best quotes I ever heard have allowed me to improve...If its not constructive practise, then it will be destructive practise. This applies to at least 90% of those people who come out with the excuse...'havent picked my cue up in....' They will always be a slave to table time and never ever seem to have a clear grasp of their game. This is only my opinion. They seem to be the unhappiest too! Regardless of their ability.

like that. can you expand on it, i mean how did it help you and what for you was constructive practice?

Agree with this, we all know to keep your head still, keep your eye on the object ball and learn to cue straight.

As for starting late, ted says he started to play seriously at age 27, probably been playing a lot longer, inevermissblue had ten years of cue action with pool before taking up snooker at age 25, with me it was the same, pool player for ten years before I took up snooker, so I could handle a cue.
I was talking about those who never played cue sports before, taking up the game at a late age and expecting to reach century break standard before the age related deterioration starts, like Les.
Chuck as much money as you like at coaching, cues, tables, videos, aiming thingymebobs or whatever, it's not going to happen.

Terry says see a coach, Les has done that, anyone remember who it was no improvement, new cue, no improvement, new table with bigger pockets, no improvement, now pockets made even bigger, what next ?

You can get anyone to watch you play to see if you're moving your head or taking your eye off the object ball, no coach needed for that, and there's no one in the world who can tell you exactly how to play this game, no matter what they charge by the hour, that comes from within, and if you haven't got the hand/eye along with the dedication, the focus, and the time needed to go with it then simply accept your standard and get on as best you can.

I agree to a point. I know there is no way I will ever reach the standard of Floyd or Terry as they know they will never reach the standard of me on the golf course. They have 40 plus years on me and like wise. When it comes to coaching yes I have had the best of the best and your right little to no change. I find this game so much like golf and the only way to get better is to play piles and piles of matches no matter how good your opponent is. I may not have known as much about the game two years ago but I know I was playing better
. Reason I believe is my oldest son was living with us and every night without fail we would play a best of 5 and some nights a best of 3 and the odd match during the day. Like golf I never practiced I just played and played seven days a week and most days 36 holes. You find what works and you just know what to do when each circumstance comes along. So maybe age will limit me but I still feel like I can improve to a decent standard meaning the odd 50 break and lots if 30's and 40's.
