I have been placing the colours on their spot and four reds randomly thrown around the table. I have had lots of mid 20's and 30's and then last night I ran three blues a black and all the colours for 51. Then today I played a best of 7 and my high break was 11. There has got to be something I am missing.
First off I make that 53 not 51, second I would say if you are making 20-30 normally in practice making 10-15 in a game is normal, don't count the odd high score you get as that's one in say twenty or thirty tries, in an easy position, you could wait a life time to get and clear a chance like that in a real frame. If you were making fifty to sixty regularly in scattered red positions then you would be making around the thirty mark with the odd good one thrown in there every now and again in a frame, you can't expect to score in a frame ,with someone trying to stop you and make it awkward, as you would practicing, it's expecting too much IMO, by the sound of it you had the reds up the baulk end or around the blue, I would put them between pink and black as that's where they are in a frame and that's where you have to learn to control the cue ball. Good to see you back Les best of luck.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Lots of balls by the sound of it!

Only joking, Les. Itsnoteasy has hit the nail on the head.

Next time high colours go safe just play them back down the table next time you are on a colour

        • Better then that. I told him next time he tries some stupid pot on a high colour to the side and leaves it below the baulk it cost him the points of the ball and it goes back on it's spot...LOL

It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

Hi Geordie, boy does that quote look familiar. I am trying to practice and just enjoy the game but I have never been one to enjoy being a hack. I do things to the extreme and to be good but Snooker is one tough game to excel at when you start at 50 years old.

Hi Les, good to see your back playing. Think positive, age is just a number. We have a couple of 70 year olds at my club, one is still winning league matches and the other still knocks in 60s practicing.

At a guess they done the hard work years ago and just using muscle memory now but it's still impressive, there was an old guy who used to play in the Newcastle league who made a 130 aged 57 so there's hope for us all

They are both great for their age, the guy getting 60s in practice gave up for 30 years and only been back playing a couple of years.

                    • Yea it's like riding s bike. Once you learn the basics and have played for numerous years it comes back pretty quick with a little bit of work. I am like that in golf. My favourite saying when I get out for a little money game with these young guys, "It doesn't take long to warm up a Rolls Royce"

That's very impressive, those old boys that just stroke everything around , no dramas, are a sight to behold. When I played for a few months when I was seventeen there was an old boy in his eighties who we played doubles with, when he was playing his old sparring partner we would watch him and we would see him knocking in a forty then miss an easy one or miss cue and look at his tip , he would then walk past and wink at us and smile, turns out he was doing it deliberately so his pal would still play him, he told me once ,what's the point in hammering him, he will stop playing me as he won't enjoy it, a true gentleman, always played in a shirt and tie.Their sessions always ended 3-2 to old Jimmy. They would then give us a thumping at doubles lol.

Liking that line Les class! Imagine going to play golf though and thinking I want to do no worse than 2 putts on every hole... chances are you will be disappointed. We do do the same in asnooker when we get a opening and expect to make at least 40 easy.

One thought that always consoles me is although I'd like to be a scratch golfer or a regular Ton maker, I don't enjoy the game any less than guys who do/are.

Just look at ROS never happy with his form says it all.
