  • Dropping the Ball?

Here's my problem. I'll be making a break and drop a sitter. For example, I was on 40 something tonight, balls were laying good and I had a brown off the spot to yellow pocket from 3 feet. Bread and butter kinda stuff. There was a good score to be had but I am losing higher runs because I am making elementary mistakes half way through a break. If I was losing position and missing a harder shot, fine, I can live with that. Though, the ones I am missing are simple pots with no real need over work for position. I've heard a few people joke, "He doesn't like those easy ones.", but, its true.

I actually score better when I have to work for a score than I get when it's straight forward.

Lack of focus? I don't know. Has anyone had this and got past it? It's a purely mind thing I think.

Work on your pre shot routine and keep focused and keep still.

Every now and then just stop and walk around the table and assess the ball positions. Then go back to your pre shot routine.

Probably right. I need to be more robotic in my pre-shot routine. Didn't consider that.

You probably play to a better standard then I do but I've found that utter consistency is key to my progression.

I'm slowly turning into a robot to.

I think you are right. I got the shot right, but the mental stuff I am going into the shot with isn't as controlled. It's easy, play it easy.. No, when it's part of a good break, it's hard!

If its an easy shot - pot and position instead of playing for an area like you may do normally pick an exact spot on the table to put the white, the extra challenge will sharpen up your focus and concentration. same principle as a golfer picking a tree to aim at when teeing off on a very wide fairway.

Yes, this easy shot has to become hard in my mind.

I really like this and will try it.

That's all I think of on every single shot... the exact spot I want the white.

At a higher standard like yourself thats fine for most shots, but still a case for aiming for a larger area on more difficult shots, whether its the pot or position that makes it hard, especially if you have more than one ball (usually reds) to play for.

No, you still play for a spot. It just happens that the spot is in a area which has options so if you miss your spot you may still have choices
