  • Plain ball all the time - nonsense

I don't think I ever saw a pro who did not use side and maybe I am wrong but I am here to be shot down - I heard many coaches who say don't use side blah blah blah but why? - Is it a myth from some old Steve Davis way of playing or from a Joe Davis book or something? I find I can cue all over the white and pot so why should I change to just hitting centre ball all the time? - just makes the game harder for me. I hit left or right of centre depending on the angle of the shot. I use helping side and I cue all over the white. I tried changing because someone said I should and read a lot and heard a lot of people who say this - when I did it my game dipped and it felt un-natural.

Don't get me wrong I can hit centre ball and do this to when I want to - in the balls it makes no difference - but why not learn to develop both things in your game though?

I stand to be corrected - I mean not everyone is the same but I don't think that is right to just hit centre on the white all the time- that is nonsense.

I don't agree with any coach who says just hit plain ball all the time - I cue all over the white and if you can hit the line thro the ob to the pocket what does it matter where you hit on the white - that line from ob to the pocket never changes does it? - hit that ball goes in - simple?

If you just hit centre white you are limiting yourself positionally for me - and if you are comfy using side or cueing to the left or right of centre on the white as I do - or all over the white as I do a lot - then do it - freedom - I think its the future - like garlic bread.

Yes Ian McCullough said he couldn't play centre ball cueing, its probably just the lack of money at the middle and lower end of the tour as to why he isn't a pro anymore.

      - well he was not bad got to a few ranking finals and retired because of a injury to his neck actually which I think was the reason more than anything but he was better than me and made a good living out of the game which is more than a lot of snooker players can say.

      A doubter perhaps?

Do you know of any pro in the top 32 that does just hit plain ball? Name me one.

I think you should hit wherever you need to on the cue ball to gain the desired position that you need for your next shot. Whatever feels the most comfortable to you and produces the best and most consistence results is what you should be doing.

LOL, that's good Ted. I have been with Cliff on numerous occasions and he hits just about everything with some kind of side. I noticed today watching the Masters when you get a behind the cue ball shot say into a side pocket they are always hitting the cue ball with a little helping side.

There is a American pool player by the name of CJ Wiley who always uses side. A matter of fact he teaches to always use TOI or touch of inside. If you check him out I am sure he can enlighten you on why a lot of pros always use a TOI.
