its good to know how to play shots with and without side. rather than having to play varying strengths shot after shot, u can move the ball around more or less with side, using the right amount of strength on shots. it actually depends on the situation.but I guess the more u need to move the cueball around the table, the more u are likely to play a shot with side. however, if u can move the cueball to the desired location without putting too much strength (usually the case when deciding to use side) without side, then by all means, don't use side. however, some players have lesser knowledge of how the cueball will move when impacting cushions and playing them shots with or without side can be frustrating. ultimately, every player should try to learn how the ball will travel, how much strength to move the ball to the desired location before learning to apply side to the same shot. with side, u may be using less effort to move the ball to the same position. with check side however, u can keep the ball tighter ARD the black area, but may have to play harder, especially if 2 cushions are involved. its an experiment all the time, but alot of things need to be considered when playing shots with side. far more than playing without side...

It's not necessarily about 'less effort' it's about what's the correct shot.
I don't think I have ever played a shot around the black spot, 2 cushions with check side. Ever
Running side, 2 cushions - yes. Check side, 2 cushions - you can get virtually everywhere without it.
Have you got an example? because I can't think of one.

Before any shot, you work out where you want the white... Sometimes you need side, that's all there is to it...

If anyone's of the position that pros use side all the time... Well... they're wrong.

This is why I cannot believe the breaks you claim to make, i have seen pictures of your snooker room and there is no way you could fit a Golden Buddha statue in the south east corner!

well pots has his own room plus his heads been down for a long time. but if you go across the pond you'll find their slerping on different juice, their doing tons and maxes in half the time and with no one to play. so i know buda aint ever made a ton to save his ring piece
