Plain ball all the time - nonsense
There was a lad in my town called Matthew Thorpe...
A weird lad, but loved snooker and woukd play with his old man once a week...
His highest break was 55... his next highest was 39...
He could pot... but completely clueless.
We were short one Monday night and took him over to Topspot in Glenfield to fill in for us...
He made a break of 104... in the league!!!
I swear to God it was the most mental thing I have ever seen with regard to snooker...
He landed on a blue on 99, straight to the corner... but chose to cut it in the middle. The white went up and down the table four or five times at mach one and left him perfect on the pink... which he didnt even jaw!
But still... a break in the 130+ region... Is a different language alltogether.

Aye when you get into the total clearance region, you have to be a very good player, it's going well up the grades of snooker, even I can tell that from my low standard. This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

The trick to making massive breaks is to not try to make massive breaks... just stay at table...
If it's easier to play for blue then to hold for black then it's definitely easier to play for baulk colours...
Little things you can do to make your shot as easy as possible... undercomplicate things almost...
Just keep at the table... big scores follow...
I used to be that guy. In practice, when there weren't 10 reds left I'd lose focus coz I'd want the ton...
Just unnecessary thoughts...
"Where do I want the white?"
Nothing else matters

then there were the ones who liked to kid themselves with a porky who were memorable too.. but yeah theres a pattern to becoming a nice player as any one whos done the work will tell you. first ton to a 'it was nothing' total clearance are two different playersLast edited by j6uk; 17 February 2015, 01:19 AM.

I genuinely believe that any player who can make a 50/60 break can make a ton... with a lot of work or a lot of luck...
But... I don't think you're gonna go from being a 50/60 break player to a 130+ at all...
0.1% probability in my eyes...
999/1

Do you think the lad that got that ton, could have been a player if someone had got hold of him and he had put a bit of work in. Its amazing he held his nerve, I doubt I would on my first chance of a Ton.This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

I have played checked side 2 cushions to swing across to hold black and before but I do have bad choice of shots. tend to overdo things. OK mayb I shud stick to 1 cushion check. haha. I used to apply a little running side on all my shots but its a bad habit...so nowadays I tend to play plain ball only.

Pricey's still class but he's all but packed it in now, which is a shame coz he's so good.
I've been fortunate enough to make back to back centuries in a Hinckley League match... I think I am the only player to do that as even Mick and Norman Dagley never did that?Terry Davidson

Back to backs in a league match is quality stuff pottr, well done dude!
I've played Adam but don't know Paul, and I thought Matt Selt played in Nuneaton regularly now? He might take offence at the Chris being the best player bit!
I grew up in Nuneaton and Mick had his second or third ever max against me, but I think I'm right in saying that though Norman Dagley knocked in thousand breaks at billiards, his highest break at snooker was just 97. Or at least it was when I left and he was around mid to late forties by then.I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

Selty lives in Atherstone
But true enough, he is playing regular at the Atack.
I saw Norman make a break of 121 in Earl Shilton Cons a couple of years before he died and he followed it up with a 90 odd a frame or two later... I saw him play on about 5 or 6 occasions, I'd be very surprised to hear he ever struggled to knock em in consistently at snooker... He was in control of that white.
