I meant from the perspective of 36 pots instead of 21

      Master Blaster's Cueing Challenge

If you can clear the lineup without using a cushion you're at a good standard...

Must start with 3/4 below the black

Will post a video tonight, took a crack at it last night and got to the last 5 balls with just stuns and soft screws so I assumed it was easier without cushions.

Great stuff! You're ready for part II with Pottr, same objective, only this time you can only use top spin, no cushions allowed. Doubling may come in handy. If you can't do it with just top spin, mix plain ball with top spin, and then maybe do the topspin challenge later. The topspin challenge has never been done to my coaches knowledge. Good luck.

There's some flippin' good players on TSF!

haha damn that does sound pretty difficult...you'd have to get essentially just off straight or straight every shot and criss cross your way up id imagine.

              Well done! Enjoyed the video
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
              I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Not sure, I've never done it! But yeah, you're right if you take the balls in sequence. Apparently it can be done easier with link balls, taking alternate balls up the line and then back down. I think this would involve a lot of criss-cross middle pocket potting. Staying on the 18" lines is more important because you can't use stun/run-through/screw to correct position. Getting too close to the object ball invites danger.

Well I tried today with only top spin and its ridiculously difficult...got too frustrated after about 4 attempts and gave up. That being said its not a very useful drill in my opinion...very seldom will you only ever have to use top spin in that kind of situation so not really a big deal.

Go girlfriend. I want someone to do it, this challenge needs to be put to bed, it's gone unanswered for too many decades.

How many balls did you pot to on your best attempt?

The exercise in itself, potting the 21 balls is futile, it won't happen in a frame. But the exercise is really about ultimate cue ball control using top spin, down to the last mm or so. It requires exceptional feel and near perfect position 20 times. There may be a time when a great break hangs in the balance and this ability comes in to play. It's the kind of thing Ding would be able to do and why he is the best break builder around, apart from Ronnie. I guess the exercise is about feel more than anything. Obviously, straight cueing is really important but you will also need to be zoned for every shot. I think anyone like yourself, who can do the first challenge so quickly and easily can do this one as well.

Agreed, Ding has ridiculous cue ball control as does Ronnie. I think I potted around 13 on my best attempt....will give it another shot tonight

13 is outstanding! Don't give up, you're two thirds of the way there!

It is definitely easier than standard line up with no cushions

One for J6, 10 reds with just baulk colours. Cue ball is on a rope but never seen it before so thanks J6
