  • estimate time taken for your half centuary and centuary?

hello just wondering how long it took yous to achieve your first 50 break then first 100+ break, been playing about 2-3 hours a week for about 3 months now and have made a 61 after about 2 months and getting regular 30's and 40's aiming to reach a century by 12 months, just wanting to compare to see it this is good, average or slow progress in general

it was a shock to the system when i first started playing when you realize how much leighway you have in pool and how unstraight my cueing was, i feel like i am improving quickly especially the last month but would you say playing general game practice or routines it the way forward to move to the next level and start looking for bigger breaksas at the moment it is all games no routines

First 50+ after 2 and half months. Then first century after I'd be playing for just under 2 and a half years. Century standard way more difficult to achieve as you can imagine and I also played way more snooker than you are.

I played a lot of pool first and a bit of billiards - I hit 30 plus right away first 50 plus was 68 after about 6 months first century about 2 years.

First 50 was about 4 months, first century about a year. Was playing a lot in those days though.
I went into a chemist and asked for a deodorant, the assistant said "ball, stick or aerosol", "No, I want it for under my arms!" was my reply.

If people on this thread were making 50+ in a frame a few months after starting playing that is some going!

+1 especially as to hit them breaks you will need to position the ball...potting is one thing but you can only get so far with that ability....

Depends on their background I would say. Anyone who's never picked up a stick and knock in a 50 after a few months is quite not believable I would say, but someone who had played pool before to a good standard then knocking in a 50 within months I would say is more achievable.

Exactly, same thing for me. Around the black spot it only takes 14 pots to make a 50 which is no big deal if you're a good potter. To consistantly make 50+ breaks though is a different story.

I was knocking in 30 to 40 for the first 12 months then at 12 months jumped to a 78 or so and within another 3 months got my first ton.
                            hope this helps

                              Difficult question to answer.
How many players have actually started playing snooker on a 12ft table as their very first cue sport? I mean not a single minute of pool whatsoever?
Also, If one did have pool as background, it matters a lot what kind of pool it was, whether it was played seriously or not, what level, against whom, which clubs, which competitions, how long did it last, was there any big progress, any big wins...etc.
Speaking from my own experience, US pool is very good for developing imagination, feel and touch, spins...match toughness too. Technique...ehm...cough, cough...not so much I'm afraid.
