  • coaches offering remote video analysis

i know nic barrow does it but which other coaches offer remote video analysis?

I'm sure that if you upload video on here, you'll get some excellent advice from some very good players. (not that I am one of them!!).
I think Dartfish software is available online, and its probably a good idea to get that and go from there. You don't really need a coach to analyze your video if you know what you're looking for. Guys on here can help with that aspect I am sure.

yes there have been quite a few threads and with http://www.kinovea.org/ and http://www.ubersense.com/ free software is available too but what nic does goes beyond that and i just wondered if other coaches offer something similar. i know wayne griffiths did it but he is on hk now

I offer it but no one has ever taken up the offer. I do video analysis at my facility using Kinovea (I have Dartfish too but it's very user-unfriendly) but for remote analysis it's the same thing I just have to download the video

That's interesting to know Terry. I might well take you up on that at some point! How do you take payment? And can someone send you a video file like mp4/mpg etc?

In fact, sending me a file is the best way as I can easily load it into my hard drive and pull it up in Kinovia. I take paypal (gift) for payment and turn around would be 1-2 days depending on my tournament schedule. I estimate it will take just one hour to do, so $50(CAN). Being semi-retired I have lots of time to do them.

I have had students load videos up to youtube and send me the link and that's worked very well. I have not done a live video session, like on Skype, as that would mean I couldn't do the video analysis which gives me the option of reviewing in Kinovea and also doing a frame-by-frame analysis like I do here at my facility.

That's great Terry thanks for getting back to me. I will definitely take you up on this! I use Microsoft OneDrive (which is brilliant IMO) so I can upload some video to that, and send you a link so you can just download it. Gets around the issue of trying to email or otherwise send large files.

I have some videos but they're fairly old now, so will get some new ones done asap. My main problem at the moment is just missing too many balls that I really shouldn't be missing. For that, would a face-on video be best to start with?

                Tim:

Actually a video file would be best since with the live video I can't see what's really happening. The best way is to use long blues with the camera over the top pocket and showing from the top of the elbow down to about 6" in front of the cueball, then from the grip hand side showing elbow down to the cue and then directly behind the cue showing elbow down to feet. 5 long blues for each video.

The tough part is getting sufficient light on the side and rear shots. I have a standing light here which I focus on the rear and side shots so they can be seen easily.

On average I try and get a good practice in once a week. The only problem I have is that I don't currently really have anything technique-wise to work on. So I'm conscious that I am probably ingraining a flawed technique. I'd quite like to get some good stuff to work on, then step-up the amount I am practicing so any changes become second nature.
