There is no one answer - every player will have an optimum angle of hand relative to the line of the cue to give the straightest cueing action they can.
So, listen to what THE CUE is telling us and test all different hand angles, settling on the one which gives the straightest cue action.
For clarification I usually recommend a player adjusts his bridge hand angle by bending the bridge elbow. This keeps the forearm and hand in one line which reduces tension in the body.
If you keep the forearm fixed and rotate the hand that introduces a lot of tension into the hand.

Cheers Nic. Yeah, tension does build up you if one rotates the wrist alone. Today I was cueing just inside but not over the third finger tip. This seemed to maximise accuracy and power. Don't know why.

its also gonna depend on the v the player can create from their own hand structure

Slightly off topic: but has anyone seen the 30 break from a player with no arms on facebook?

Uses his foot as a bridge and locks his cue with his neck on his shoulder.

I can't find the video to link here.

Does anyone have the link on youtube?
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

where to rest the cue on the hand as a bridge is a totally different question all together though
Not disagreeing with you but more interested in why you will be cutting across the ball?

              There you go mate,

I must say as well seeing this video puts into context how lucky we all are and these petty squabbles on here and the nasty comments are quite pathetic, life's to short people we all love snooker and have all our faculties(just about) so how's about a clean slate for everybody and get this place we frequent back how it used to be?

I guess it also depends on your hand and bridge elbow position, whether you cut across the ball or not. Obviously, Higgins has mastered a bridge arm and hand position that avoids this but still cues over middle finger. It's a solid base but does it lead to a power loss (from reshaping the bridge arm). Higgins isn't exactly a power giant player.
